Surprise, surprise, the rocker stands on this one are cast as part of the head. I've got new bearings coming from Boca, luckily the cam drive pinion bearings are good, the ring, piston and cylinder are like new. No shim in the head, I am making my own gaskets.

I reassembled the cam box, I used a .050" drill bit in my drill press to clean out the dimples in the cam gears, I then dipped a pushpin into some red touch up paint and placed a minute amount in the clean dimples. Having to push both cams in simultaneously and keep the tiny dots in the correct place was real fun. While I had the cam box off I installed a crankcase vent in the cam box to facilitate placing Corrosion X in the cam box between sessions. Prevents the famous Enya rusty cam problem.

This is a document that Earl provided a few days over a year ago, I like to keep things like this near the forefront for all to see. It's for reversing Enya's. I'll get the forward one in a few.

I will be interesting how these engines scrub up!

Price for the 30SS TN on website is $144, apparently without the VAT, so that's the price, plus shipping. I'd love one, but I'm afraid that's a little too steep for me.

The .80 I've been restoring is done and ready to run, I dolled it up a bit with a black rocker cover and stainless rocker cover screws. The Mac's tuned quiet pipe is for noise reduction and does not effect the performance any. It reduces the sound to nice quiet purr.

Thankyou very much, I just ran it for 40 minutes. Even though I thought I had cleaned it out pretty well the first oil that came out was really rusty looking, After about 15 minutes the oil cleared up and became clear. The pictured Xoar 14x6 is definitely too much prop, you have to really sneak up on full throttle and even then it rattles like a Mack 711. 8,600 was the max which in my book is good but it would be happier turning faster, like about 10,000. It's a very smooth engine,when it's not knocking, I'll do a first run autopsy and check it out thoroughly It sure smokes on that systhetic..
Enya .80
Fuel==Wildcat 10% full synthetic
Prop==Xoar 14x6
Plug==Enya A3
Exhaust==stock pipe
Max rpm=8,600

At an RC flea market two Saturdays ago. The guy said it had hardly been ran, but inside it was a rust bucket. New Boca Bearings and some home made gaskets fixed it right up the piston/ring seal is excellent.

In the last year and a half I've bought 10 new (old stock but new) Enya's from Japan (Ken) and from England. I've bought two .60XF, one SS.50BB, one SS.40BB, two .35X, one SS.30BB, two SS.25BB, and one .53 4C. This has all cost me $1,820.57; quite a big chunk of money. But the reason I feel okay with it is 1) I'm an Enya fanatic 2) I was away from the hobby for 32 years, the hobby changed, and when I saw that getting an Enya was quite difficult I almost quit again 3) Other fellow RCers tell me they can get equivalent engines from Chinese manufacturers for 25% - 30% less, which depending on the size, might turn out to be $50 to $80. But when I see them struggling at the field while I'm flying, that $$$ doesn't mean crap to me.
Sure $144, plus approximately $15 shipping is a bit steep for a .25 ci engine. Right now the Magnum .25 is $80 on HP, for example. But hey, I'm divorced and get to have my kids with me every other weekend. During those 2 or 3 days, just by going out to eat 2 or 3 times with them, taking them bowling and to the movies, I'm out $300, and after all that I have diddley to show for it. Puff!!! $300 up in smoke. So when I spend $60 to $80 more on the engine I want, and get superb performance and reliability to boot, I wind up feeling good about my purchase. But that's me.

Yes, I understand spending money on gorgeous new Enyas, just not sure I'll spring for it myself. Not judging anyone else's decision at all.
The one thing I do judge is mufflers. I know they've got some new ones, but I'm skeptical. I bought a "Quiet Muffler" M502CX for my Enya 45SS from shtterman and didn't find it very quiet. Then I checked it against the regular muffler, same prop, same engine, same fuel. I got 850 more rpm just by taking out the baffle in the Quiet Muffler! Then I tried it on an old 45CX and got the same rpm difference. I double checked, it's real. For about the last forty years it's not just an engine anymore, but an engine/muffler system. And that's where I think our dear Enya company has missed the boat.

My .60 isn't that offensive without a muffler, so I ant imagine the .80 is that much worse. The R120 is pretty loud with the muffler - I couldn't imagine running it without a muffler.

I thought my 53 4C sounded great,; don't know about the other 4Cs. But I am convinced that the two strokes need better mufflers, and I think the lack of good mufflers has hobbled a line of engines that is otherwise absolutely first rate. Not only that, but in the popular 35 to 50 size range they chose, for no apparent reason, a muffler bolt spacing (42 mm) that the other manufacturers do not use, or use only on larger engines. It's a shame, but this problem has damped my enthusiasm for these fine engines. I do have quite a collection of older ones, mostly in smaller sizes, that have strap-on types. I often substitute other mufflers for these.
One guy reported huge rpm increases from an Enya 30SS by substituting a larger OS muffler. It was probably quieter too, since the engine is extremely noisy with the Enya muffler. That's nice, but when you have to use mufflers from other manufacturers to get good results, you've got a problem.

Well, of all the Enya's I bought the only I have put in use as of today is a 35X in a GP Cherokee (a plane that indicates the use of a .40 to .46 2 stroke engine or a .56 4 stroke). I got rid of about 5 ounces from the plane, plus a few more by using this engine. It just fit completely under the cowl and flies it very well. I did not use a pitts style muffler, but instead carved up the underside oh the plane to allow the standard muffler (the extra silenced one) to fit along the underside. Its almost invisible from most angles. Its the most quiet plane (with a 2 stroke) that I have, and I have planes with O.S.'s, Nova Rossi's, H.B.'s and K&B's. Have not removed the baffle and have not tried it with another muffler. Might I get better muffling with another muffler? Maybe, but as is, it purrs pleasantly, so I don't need less noise (actually, when other planes are in the air at the same time I have trouble hearing it and have to accelerate every so often to make sure I'm not dead stick, even though it has never quit on me). Might I get more RPM's with another muffler or without the baffle? Almost certainly, but at least in this "sport scale" plane, I'm not in search of the ultimate performance. Believe me, it flies nicely and at full bore it flies way faster than scale.

I'm very glad to hear that about the 35X. I have some Irvine 36s and 39s that I use the same way, in planes designed for larger engines. I wouldn't describe their sound as a "purr", except at low throttle, so maybe the Enya is better.
I'm relating my experience with the 30SS and a couple versions of the 45. The mufflers for those, unfortunately, are pretty bad.
