Lou is right, you really cannot compare. There is no feedback in RC and any connection you seem to have is psychological.

Hello Lou,

No criticism implied or inferred, I just thought it was worthy of comment. I haven't flown CL since the Nebraska fly-in a few yrs back, when I was an AMA RC pilot-instructor. The CL guys had a circle set up with a trainer set up for dual handles. Fun!

What I was trying to say was that when I'm flying I'm not conscious of the stick but of the mental link between me and the model. I'm not thinking of how to manipulate the sticks to get the maneuver done; I'm just thinking of getting the model to go where I want it to and how.

One day I had a sudden crash due to an equipment failure. I remember that after the model crashed I had a feeling in my hands of a "disconnectedness" through the transmitter. There was nothing "on the other end," y'see? Maybe not well described but that's my best shot at explaining what I mean.

regards,

CR

I never liked the restriction of the CL planes, they are constantly pulling outwards and would seemingly be much more happy if they where set free...?

With RC one has the option to fly in a guided free-flight mode where the plane flies completely free, appart from the occasional input in order to not fly out of sight. This to me is much more appealing than watching a tethered profile plane trying to escape its tether, lap after lap...

I fly RC mostly, but really like the control line better. I can fly them at a much higher speed safely, like 150 mph. When they are really going, the pull makes them feel like you are really hanging on to something, and there is a more precise control, like pulling out of a loop at 5 feet... It is easier to find the crash site too.

I have these three Fox engines for sale in the MarketPlace, two .50's and a .46 ABC, the rear .50 is a .46 crankcase with a .50 sleeve and piston in it. All three have really good compression, the middle one has ceramic bearings.

Dave, Are those the high compression or low nitro heads on those? Or are there some that are low nitro and others that can tolerate nitro?

That is funny. But in our club, there are woods and a river on one side of field. Many planes crashed there over the years and lots of planes were never found. One guy lost his plane and 2 years later a guy found it there. I am not sure about the engine condition, but the airframe and radio are ruined.

Hugh, I believe those are original high compression heads, I do have a Flight Line Solutions head button or two for .74's and maybe one for a .60. Some of the buttons I have have different slopes on the combustion chamber walls and possibly a higher roof. I'll have to take a picture.

Hi Dave,
I have acquired a good condition Fox .45 since I bought your Fox .50. I would like to replace the bearings just so I'l know what I've got with the motor. Can you tell me anything about the .45 bearings or where I might look to get new ones? I'd prefer to be able to get new ones without disassembly of the motor for measurement.

Thanks,
Dave B.

https://www.bocabearings.com/product...KIE&feature=45

These are for the Quicky 45 and cost 8 bucks more than the 50 bearings.

Bearings are ordered. Thanks a bunch Dave. I had no clue the quickie 45 was the same as the plain .45 Fox. I wonder why they are more expensive?

Need help! Got an older Fox .40 dbb and baffled but came used w/o piston ring. Otherwise engine looks immaculate. It's older than my .40 Deluxe but is scant of markings. Any info. would be appreciated!

Thanks a bunch! Now if I could only find a piston sleeve ( liner ) for my Fox .74 abc I'll have it made. I think previous owner use a screw driver through exhaust port to lock piston. No wonder people have problems with these engines. Thank God for this forum. Hope Fox can restart production when economy improves.

Fox parts are very hard to come by. You'd have better luck finding a ringed piston and liner which I believe fits the ABC crankcase. Don't quote me on that though. Earlwb would know I bet.

Does Gavin know the dimensions required for pistons rings for all the brands or do we have to send him the piston and liner for him to size it? Good old Frank Bowman knew all the sizes.

Gavin has a list posted on RCG with what he (at the time) has dimensions for. You would get the most up to date information by sending him a message through eBay.

Frank had a huge head start on building a database up of the different engines and what the piston ring sizes are. Gavin has a good set of information but he doesn't have the many years head start that Frank had. You would need to contact Gavin to find out if he needs the cylinder and piston though. Maybe he does maybe not.

Not so far. I have been studying it, but I haven't come across anything matching yet. But if man made something then man can remake it too. So one can make the parts for a engine if they need to. I have made connecting rods off and on for some of my engines though. There isn't anything special or complicated for most engine parts. One can even chrome or nickle plate things too.

"Frank had a huge head start on building a database up of the different engines and what the piston ring sizes are. "

I always said that Frank Bowman could probably make good money selling that database to whomever wants to take up the opportunity.

Hard core, man!!!!

Need Help!
Does anyone know the initial factory settings for the high end and idle needle valves on an old Fox .78 engine? A friend gave me this engine but it came without the instructions. Does anyone know if the owner's manual is still available for download? I would be grateful for any information that you can provide.

Show us a picture of it. Then we'll know which carb it has.
