Actually quite a few Fox engines use threaded prop studs on the end of the crankshaft. You can usually tell when you take a look at where the threads end and the crankshaft shoulder starts.

What's going on at Fox? The website is down, are they going to start manufacturing & selling engines again anytime soon? Anyone with facts on the situation please post. Their engines are powerfull, long lasting and reasonably priced ( in the past). Thanks.

I suspect they will. A lot of people switched not just to electric, but small electrics, because of cost. When the economy returns and they want something larger they may decide to go glow. I don't think it will ever be as it was, but better than now.

Fortunately the Fox engines wear well and last a really long time. So the used engine market should be good for quite a while then. Even if the economy picks up, they would still need a demand out there for model engines. I don't know if there will be now. Plus the Chinese have to either quit making engines, stop shipping engines over here, or somehow the prices go up quite a bit.

What is even sadder (more sad?) than Fox (and others) not producing engines anymore is that there are no new (not many) people joining the hobby, not even flying electrics. And those who remain are saturated with glow engines. Look at the sales ads in here and other sites, the glow engines (2 and 4 strokes) are getting dumped at incredible prices. No manufacturer can do business in these conditions. I have a few extra engines with no planes, so I can't even justify buying any new engines unless it is a game-changer improvement over the exisiting engines.

I guess it depends on what region you live in, but I don't think the economy is going to get much better than what is now.

The economy is garbage and whoever the fine citizens of this country vote into the White House will certainly be a douche. Haven't had a president for quite some time that didn't run the country into the ground. The current commander in chief has done a real bangup job of running us into the mud. Yuck.
I don't expect the economy to improve for another 20 years provided someone can right all the wrongs from the last several administrations. Not holding my breath. :X

Unfortunately the government has control over the economy and with their poor spending habits, I doubt anything is going to greatly improve in a short time frame. Faith? Not in our government I dont, and won't unless something drastic happens.

Well, I can add to the depressing topic... I crashed one of my planes today. I don't know if I can repair it because it is a modern ARF with lite ply interlocking wood.

Totally off topic, I've been working on one of my hydrofoil airboats today. Almost ready for some speed runs. I'll be happy with 60mph, but expecting about 55mph. For the sake of argument, I'll pretend it's being run with a Fox .46.

Yeah, you are off topic, we were discussing sad and depressing things and you changed it to good news.

I have one of those carb adapters for the B-cased engines as well. I had a really lean midrange with the EZ (.330" choke) carb on my Fox .50/MDS .40 hybrid "FrankenFox", so I put a Perry carb I had on it using the adapter (.270" choke). It ran much better in the midrange and had no power loss.
The EZ carb worked okay using diesel fuel but didn't work as well using glow fuel.
