Rumor has it the engine tooling is being sold off. I suspect the Fox glow plugs were made by another company and rebadged for Fox. Merlin makes fine glow plugs as does Enya. K&B plugs are available from Mecoa. McCoy is still around.

The Quickie Sport. Same as the engine DM12345 has:

The Quickie Special. That's the version 1Qwksport2.5r mentioned as the hot one with the wild timing. Not much use on anything but a racer:

Great to see all the interest in old fox glow motors. My first fox was a 25 that ran great for many many years in a little stuck. Right now I'm working on a Kaos 60 for an Eagle 3 60.
*If anyone would have or would know where I might find a muffler extension for my fox 60 it would be much appreciated. Brodak has them on their website but no longer stocks them.
Thank you

Yes Fox is gone. They are not manufacturing anything model related. I am not sure they are making anything else at this time either.
Try Merlin Glow plugs, they work really well and are priced good too.

My latest diamond in the rough find is Picco glow plugs. They are damn tough and last a long time. Longevity is almost double what I get from an Enya 3. BUT they're expensive.

I believe they are making nothing anymore. Company closed it doors and nobody answers the phone. No Fox company not even making industrial parts anymore.

It would be a big waste of money to take on the Fox brand unless you intended to completely re-design the whole "lineup".

Why? They hadn't innovated anything in the last 20 years except their carburetor - and even with that it didn't change much. Looking at their more recent price lists and comparing to what's available now - it's hard to beat a Novarossi these days. Quality is top notch and pricing is the best it's been in 20 years. Hell, they're on-par with OS pricing (or better!) and are way better made.

$100 more than other engines and that doesn't include a muffler. Plus I see that there are a lot of "Sold Out" items, it could be that they are getting out of airplane engines?

I flew a fox .40 back in 1989 and it screamed.and it only got better after each run.The Fox,Eagle .60 I never had alot of luck with it. It ran Ok,but needed alot of lubrication maybe I just wasnt tuning it right. I think it was the Fox .46 that I had, which was ringed, didnt have the power and performance that the .40 had. This is only my opinion. I ran a 10/8 prop on both and the .40 out performed the .46. If .40's were still around,I would by a couple of them. I think the reason is ABC vrs. Ringed.

Novarossi engines don't seem that big a bargain to me: https://www.planethobby.com/collecti...9mm-carburetor

The "bargain" isn't necessarily the price tag solely. Everybody equates "value" with the price tag. The value comes in with performance and longevity.
Planet Hobby has some better pricing than Novarossi Direct does on the aircraft engines, but I've run some Novarossi car engines and they are absolutely fantastic. I hadn't checked the pricing on the aircraft engines lately - pricing has gone up a bit in the last month or so. I have a feeling the aircraft engines don't move as fast as the car engines do and is probably why the pricing is higher on the aircraft engines.

The .46 was ABC. The .45 and .50 were ringed. Most of the lapped .40s I had ran fine, but were. I barn burners. They were the compact series though and probably why they weren't stellar. The big case .40 was much better in performance.
I still have a compact .40 ABC that runs okay. I got it new/unrun. Seems to run okay although the piston seal is not good. I'm betting the piston or liner or both aren't totally round. I suspect the quality slipped with the later production engines. The lapped pistons were fitted significantly better than any of the ABC Foxes I've had in my hands.

Anybody have a recommendation of what plane would be good with a Fox Hawk 60?

I absolutly agree, The lapped engines ran great because of the tight tolerances with the piston and case, In my opinion, ringed engines run more smoother than lapped engines, especially at low idle. But they all work fine. Thats what makes this hobby fun!

None of you guys seem to get where Duke was coming from with the .46, .50 & Eagle IV .60 engines. He tuned them for torque. To get the best out of them you had to use a big bat. Everyone uses RPM as a guideline and all want a 10" prop. Stupid.

It is possible that MECOA bought the tooling. But maybe not as they pretty much didn't have any parts left either.
But for Fox Manufacturing, his kids and grandkids just were not interested in continuing the company. His wife got to old to continue and one of his relations ran the company after he had retired from his previous job. But he got too old to keep it going too. Thus there wasn't anyone to keep the company going anymore.

Lets face it though - a lot of guys are opting for 4-strokes where a .61-.91 2-stroke is or would be the go-to engine size. In the discussion of bringing Fox back or whatever - It wouldn't make much sense unless they came out with a 4-stroke engine of their own design (and hopefully not ugly like many of their engines) in a few different displacements. Then they might have a fighting chance at making some sales.
You might think I'm stupid - and that's fine. I don't care. Do notice that I never referenced any specific props or rpm. Companies like Novarossi make several different versions of a given displacement for different purposes. There are at least 3 different .46 sized engines, 3 or 4 .50 sized variants and so-on. Did Fox make the Eagle IV .60 in multiple "versions" for different purposes or was it always a one size fits all? Oh wait, you could change head buttons, re-profile needle valves and so-on to tailor your Fox to run.. that sounds kinda stupid to me.
