Default Comparison Test

Whyes,
Have you made any progress on the Saito / YS shootout test ?
I have abandoned my plan to install the Jett 1.20 on my AW Edge 60/90. I have a Saito 100 that I have been flying for about 6 months. I am using the Cline pressure/regulator system in it, and it works great. I am anxiously waiting to see if the YS 91 will put out enough additional power to justify the extra 7 oz of weight.
Again I (we all ) greatly appreciate your efforts.
Thanks, Robert.

Default What Prop

Mostly on my Saito 100 I have been running the APC 15 x 4 W FunFly. I'm at 1000 ft. ASL, 15% Cool Power, and stock H-9 super plug. I'm getting 10,600 peak, flying at 10,400. On my test stand I measured this setup to deliver 10 lbs, 10 oz of static thrust at 10,400 rpm. I have tried a Zinger 15 x 6 and the RPM droped to 9300. Static thrust droped top 10 lbs, 1 oz. I'm not necessarily interested in flying slow, I just like to have plenty of static thrust (read vertical pulling power) to get out of trouble. On the Saito 100 the 15 x 4 W has given me the best thrust readings. Don't rush out and purchase a 15 x 4 W if you don't have one. I can relate your results with a 15 x 6 or 8 to my purpose.
Thanks again,
Robert.

Default Saito 100

Splat, I just came in from running my Saito 100 with a 16x5 Zinger, I ran 24 oz of Fox 5%-50/50 through it just to put some more time on it. It's going on a Kellett AutoGyro that requires a minimum of 8 lbs thrust. Glad to see that it makes 10. I was getting 9,200 on top and 2,200 really smooth idle. I guess if it would idle at 1,600 I could fly backwards.

Default Saito 100

Hobbsy,
Well I am getting the same reesults with my 100...
I think by the looks of some of the previous we are going to get a somewhat biased review......
I am sticking with the 100.....I have the YS 91 in a chipmunk, and I have the Saito in a chipmunk...IDENTICAL.
The throttle response is more pronounced on the YS,(i suppose it is due to fuel injection) but the Saito has a buttkickin idle and midrangeand hasn't been broken in yet. Both are somewhat gas guzzlers.
My vote:
Saito 100 9points
YS 91 8.5 points
I really don't know what all this means anyway...
Regards,

Default Fuel, plug and prop

Five by, what fuel, prop and plug are you using, I ran the Hangar nine Super plug and the above mentioned prop and fuel. Even on 5% fuel the idle was very smooth, the midrange is still a bit smokey, top end is still pretty rich. I attribute part of the great idle to the plug. I put a Super plug in my Saito 150 and what a difference. The throttle is like a rheostat now.

Default Plugs for Saito 100

Hobbsy,
I buy the fox miriacle plug.....at their booth its $2 each......I have wasted a lot of dollars on the 9$ plugs....
15% heli fuel.... cool power Green.
Ya can't make the Saito burp...yes if one does not know how to start this engine...(WHYES)....it will kick your a**.....I never use a starter on the Saito.. I flip by hand with the muffler covered...2 or 3 flips...I connect the glow and one hit backwards ...Its going..The YS ...You have to build up the tank pressure... I use the electric starter on it.Once it is started you have a go.....subsequent starts are fine with stick unless you release the tank pressure.

Wow! That was great ladyflyer. Is it just me or would we all be happier if FiveSquare would just admit his lack of knowledge and stop the worthless posts about whyes, who obviously knows more than him. Whyes is trying to help everyone with the testing. You've served your purpose FiveSquare, if you ever had one on this thread.

Default YS 91

Well Ladyflyerl and plane boy.How do you tell if you did not buy it new.........???
Is there a marking on the engine???
I am not really sure you aren't the same person.......Plane boy do you dance????
Geeze.......Want me to send pics or what????
I have not had a problem with backfire or burp since the Saito has been broken in.
What are you guys pissed because I gave the YS an 8.5, and The Saito 9.0...........Like I said (to all you professional YS owners)...What the hell is the difference... If you can't afford a Saito...get another brand..I drive a Silverado...YOU?
Is it a Ford...so what is the big difference,,,one is ugly one is not.
Give it a rest!

Oh my! Are you a fisherman??? It think my Saito .72 is ready for a trade!

Planeboy;
Not sure about your comment ref: a Fisherman is for. But ref: you getting rid of a Saito 72 I wouldn't it can always be used as balast somewhere! : ) JK. All funning aside! If you have no idea the power and capabilities of a YS to a Saito, then you need not make any comments. There is no comparison the YS has no equal in the 4 stroke realm.

If you believe that the YS-63 doesn't have the Power of Mid-range 90's get some numbers from of us that own them and your skeptisim will be abolished.

Have Fun

Getting back to the original question? I think I can remember, I think he wanted to know which engine was stronger.

Hands down, no question, The YS is a stronger engine and gives the advantage of putting the fuel tank anywhere you want. IMP the extra power more than makes up for the extra weight.

Depends on if you want a serious 3Der or just an good running strong engine like the Saito 100

The only reason I let this little pissing contest go on is that it amused me. This is a great thread, please try to be objective with you posts, so we may all benifit. The trash can at another site is available for childish personal attacks. Thanks for your cooperation.
