Just follow the manual, 1/4 to 1/3 throttle at start up no more than 4,000 rpm for first 10 minutes, if it's like most of mine it will slowly start to accelerate after 12 to 15 minutes and be running about 4,500 after 20 or so minutes, I assume this is from parts smoothing out and mating better. If you use the flipping backwards method it will start instantly, once it is primed. I tried to start mine by hand once when it was cold out, it kicked backwards and the other blade hit my finger tips, shattered my finger nails like glass and I had blue finger tips for a week. Now I use the backwards flip and a big chicken stick or my big Sullivan.
