Default RE: OS engines users Club

Anyone know the difference between the OS 120 AX and the OS 120 FX?

Besides the "A" and "F".

Charles: Go to www.osengines.com. I can't find the 120 FX. I don't think they make a FX or it is not listed on there home page.

There never was an O.S. Max 1.20 FX engine.

Existing versus not existing is a pretty significant difference. I'd go with the 1.20 AX since it actually exists!

D,

I did all that! Couldn't find anything.

What kind of punch do OS engines have compaired to Moki's?

They are talking about the alleged OS 1.20FX versus the AX, not the airplane you have pictured, if I read it correctly.

It depends upon which size you are comparing.

The OS engines burn just about any kind of fuel with varying oil types, content, nitro amount, etc., but the Moki engines can be pretty demanding on fuel types. Power output is fairly close for the engines that match up in displacement. Lots of folks really love the Moki 1.35. I'd rather run a Super Tigre G2300 (1.40) myself.

My first OS engine was the OS 80 two plug RE. That was over 20 years ago.

Does that qualify me for the OS Engine club?

I have to choose an engine for this Super Skybolt ARF I just purchased. I thought the OS 1.2 AX would be fine.

Now I'm thinking the OS 1.6 FX.

I have nothing to go on because I have no experience with either engine? I have an Enya 120 and Enya 120R.

This is why my questions.

This is the model I have the OS 80 in.

hey there w8ye. you just pop up everywhere, don't you? lol

Nope no SF's there. The SF's are from around 15-18 years ago I think.
Have a .46 SF pumped that I bought new back then that's always been a real screamer for me and wanted to possibly find a .61 to use in a profile plane as it could use a little more umph but don't know the specs as to whether it'll fit

you know of anyone elses .60 size that is a lightweight real screamer? Needs to have excellent response.
Have an ST .45 ABC (italian) that's also been an incredible engine, was their . 60 size also as good?

The ST S61, S61K, and G61 were all favorites. The ST 75 series was even more popular if you were not in competition that required 10cc disp. Also the ST 90 which were the same foot print as the 61 were popular.

In recent years the Tower 75 has stolen a lot of their thunder.

what's the difference between the three different ST .61's?

The .45 I have is the ABC version. Actually the first ABC engine I ever had

Even the old ST 60 versions were actually 61's

The S61 was Schnurle ported and had a 6 bolt round machined head. It had a removable front bearing housing

The S61K had a four bolt Schnurle ported head with the removable front bearing housing I had a ABC and a ringed one

The G61 had the same head as the S61K but was a one piece crankcase without the removable front bearing housing.

would you say either was a better engine?
or put it this way, did either one perform better than the other ABC versus ring?
I would definitely try to find one with the removable bearing carrier but wonder if the 6 bolt head would be of any advantage on such a small seating area.
Does the S61K have the squared head? If it does, I imagine it probably does a better job of cooling the head.

got a question...I finally am getting around to installing an OS BX-1(1.08) engine in a funtana 60-80 size plane.the engine is one I got from a late modellers auction.the emotor is clean and yes has the 7D carb on it.I also have a couple of mufflers and a slimline pitts style muffler.I was lucky as the plane was used by a 3D junior champ and he just outgrew it and moved on and fortnuately the engine used just happened to be exactly the same.lucky me!so what prop do I use on this beast! and any advice on plugs.also the throttle is one I am unfamiliar with .its a black ball link and not sure what the heck couple to use.help.I have a 16x6 apc I can install.

I was told its one of the most reliable motors os ever made.

if it's a small metal ball that is threaded thru the throttle arm most likely it takes a white nylon snap on link that gets threaded onto your throttle linkage.
They're available in your local hobby shop if they have a decent airplane hardware section.
Dubro and Sullivan both make them I believe.
You can check either one of their websites to see what it looks like.
You can probably find them packaged both ways.Complete hardware including ball and link or seperate.

you can laugh because you obviouly weren't standing in front of it!
take it from someone that's had to have a finger re-attached from one of these engines,
these things are definitely not toys . Take every precaution you can

And NEVER NEVER NEVER hand flip an engine without a very heavy glove on!! [X(]

I would. Only hone to break the glaze and give it the crosstatch pattern. Be sure to use kerosine for lube and wash after with warm soapy water and coat with after run oil.

I wont even hand turn a prop with a heavy glove.rather stupid to hand turn a 18 or 22 inch prop,I like my fingers so a starter is fine.what I did do is to build a test bench similar to the bech used at the field.kind of no brainer for me personally and a heap safer..

Is there supposed to be a gasket between the head and the engine body on an .91FX?

The gasket is hard to see if it is there like it is supposed to be.

The gasket is aluminum
