Saito 180 damaged... Horizon will not respond to email
I recently damaged a almost new saito 180 in a crash. The jug, rocker arm covers, one of the push rods to the valves and throttle arm were damaged. this is all you can see from the out side. Horizon will not answer my email. I have sent two. Is there anywhere else that will reapir this engine. Part two is do you think it is worth repairing? Your responses are appreciated.[]

YS is the hands down winner for expensive parts. $30 for a needla valve assembly for a 120NC. Saito has the least expensive of the three.

This would make a good thread. Each poster could build a hypothetical engine ( say a .46-.52) using replacement parts. Then we could compare them to the retail cost of the same engine. I wonder which vendor would have the best new engine/parts engine ratio?

It's no big surprise that an engine made from parts would cost a fortune. Someone did that with an automobile 30 years ago. It would have cost over 100,000 bucks to make a cadillac from parts in the 70's when 75 Coupe deville cost $10,350 sticker price

Ever buy parts for a YS$$$
Ever buy parts for a YS$$$
engines....both obsolete. Gaskets, rings. piston, rods, pins, and a lot of
regulator parts....diaphrams, springs, plungers, ect.
I once paid $80.00 for a Saito .80 head pipe and muffler, that was maybe
10 years ago....now that's high priced. A Magnum 1.20 pipe and muffler
assembly was about $32.95.

Whoa there Nellie, I was just responding to the guy that wants to compare the price of an engine made from parts as compared to a new engine. That has nothing to do with Saito 180 parts either.

We charged $79.99 for a complete brand new Saito FA45 at Hobby Shack 20 years ago. In Japan I paid $140 for a Saiot FA80T twin. Prices go up everywhere.

When you have a lot of damage, you may be better off selling the engine as is on one of the auction sites and buying a new one to replace it. If you know how to wrench, fix it yourself and save the expense of labor they will charge you- it's a great way to learn about your engine, and if you need help, there is plenty available here. As said above, Horizon has great customer service- call them.

Thanks to everyone for their thoughts.. I think I will list the engine on rcu and sell it. Do you think I should part it out or sell it as a complete unit. By the way ... anyone who reads this thread and wants the engine i will sell it... as it... with tru turn spinner and adapter shipped for 200.00.
thanks
