Used Saito 91 GK for $150. Would you trust it?
There is someone I know of that is trying to sell a used Saito 91 GK for $150. He says that the engine was passed down to him from a deceased relative and is in excellent condition, "but he has never actually seen it run for himself"
Would you trust an offer like this?

The are too many variables to pass judgement on the information given.
Some things to look for...[ul][*] Does the engine look good with no broken, repaired, or drilled out areas?[*] Is it clean?[*] How does it feel when you turn the prop over by hand? Is it rough and gritty feeling? Does it have compression?

I'm a novice at this hobby but I don't buy used electronics or engines. There's a nice Ultimate 300 60 size sitting in my garage that went into a tree. A friend of mine tip stalled it on a down wind to base turn, gave it full power but couldn't save it in time. The prop, spinner and cowl were totally destroyed, two engine mounting bolts going into the firewall were bent. He gave me the plane, it's not too badly damaged. He sold the Saito 91 with the engine mount on e-bay.
thanks but no thanks....buyer beware!

Depends on the seller and whether you trust him or not. I've purchased dozens of used engines and very seldom had problems. The usual problem was rusty bearings. If the engine has good compression and looks good, It probably is OK. Pull the backplate off and check the bearings and crankshaft for rust.

Hello, I've been in the hobbie for about 24 years. Some of the best deals I've ever got was at auctions where the person selling didn't have a clue what they were selling. I have bought many items from fellow hobbiest/liar's who wanted to make a buck. I Have never lied or misled anybody I've dealt with. It is what it is. There is enough companies robbing us without us fueding with each other. John

Ihave been buying and selling used engines for a couple of years. A good friend of mine runs a full time busines at it. Brucercengines, his stuff is top notch. I have gotten some real deals and a few stinkers along the way but the majority have been good.

I think it is difficult to trust someone you DON'T know,at all.
I guess that if the engine looks nice on the outside
without scratches, dings, hits, much discolouration and all
then you may be luckier with this engine!
