Super Tigre G-34 or OS .40LA???
How would a Super Tigre G-34 compare with an OS .40LA? This would be used on a very slow 3-D type plane with a large diameter low pitch prop. I'm already running the .40LA with a mousse can muffler with an APC 11x3 with good results. Just wondering if I could shave off some weight and get more thrust with the G-34. What do you guys think?

My old (italian) G-34 in stock form will burn circles around the 40LA, 46LA and 40FP engines. Properly tuned, it should handle the 11x3 props with ease even though I've never tried one on them. I have run them with 10x6 props and 10x5 props and have seen in excess of 15 K with the old G-34's depending on the fuel.

Hi Plasticmaster,
I agree, that ST34 is a great engine. Just one thing...that needle valve is verrry close to the back of the prop. Don't ask me how I know!

The G34 is being asked to turn more rpms to get the power which can might be peaky or pipey for 3D flight. You already have a good idea of how the LA performs with the mousse can and I am willing to bet that it is giving a broad, linear power curve. How about springing for the LA 46?

RE: Super Tigre G-34 or OS .40LA???
the ST.34 is a good engine, but needles in my opinion are finicky. I don't have a OS40LA but have a .40FP on a moosecan and it is a great little motor. I think the ST .34 with stock muffler will weigh more than OS .40LA and a moosecan.
Also if your trying to keep your budget light, you could try a Thunder Tiger .36 and it will outperform both of those motors. I think the .40LA exhaust and the TT .36 exhaust is the same so you could move over you moosecan.
For a bit more money you could move to a OS .32SX and moosecan. great light weight combo, but the OS .32 is expensive. I have a OS .32SX for years and love it. but a friend of mine has the TT.36 and his does just as good, but for less money.
