Default Moki 120 vs Webra 120

How does the Moki compare? Size, weight, power, reliability etc.

Also, when was the Moki 120 replaced by the 135? Do they share the same crankcase? I know the 135 is bigger, heavier and a bit more powerful then the Webra.

Thanks in advance,
Kelly

Default Moki 120 vs Webra 120

I use a Webra Speed 120. It is utterly reliable and user friendly. It's more of a tractor than a power house. I get about 8500 on a 16-8 and 5% fuel. I always flip start it (I don't own or need a starter). I also use a Bisson muffler. Although I've never weighed it, it seems very light for it's size. It's also a miser on fuel. I did modify the high speed needle. Rounded the tip to avoid jetting over-lap at idle (long story). I highly recommend this engine.

Per the specs, the Moki looks quite a bit heavier. You need to calculate the engine+muffler weight. Remember, the power to weight ratio of the entire airplane, ready to fly, is very important in comparing engines. It's much less use to compare bare engine power and weight.

Default Webra 120

I concur with Ilike, and also can say the 120 is electric motor smooth, my carb is perfect. After priming it is a one or two backflip starter every time. 5% is all the nitro it needs.

Default Moki 120 vs Webra 120

I can't comment on the Moki, but like those above, I have the Webra Speed 1.20. The only difference in my experience (from theirs) is mine has always had a rough spot (wet) if I transition through the mid-range too slowly. It doesn't quit, just kind of "coughs" and then clears it's throat before roaring! Other than that, mine is a hoss. Obviously, tachs will vary, but mine will turn 9.0-9.1K on my tach with an APC 16 x 8 at near sea level and 10% fuel (18% all synthetic oil). I LIKE it, and it pulls my GP Sukhoi like mad!

I did some more research on this one. It's hard to find good comparable numbers for these two engines. It looks like, from various sources, the Moki will be only 3 to 5 ounces heavier than the Webra (assuming the Bisson mufflers are equal in weight). The Moki looks like it will turn a 16-8 about 500 rpm faster.

They both look great to me. When I run my Webra, I often wonder what's the point of a four stroke. These big two strokes will grunt with the best four stroke.

As for the transition, chamfering and rounding the low speed needle (sorry, I got that wrong the first time) changes the relationship between low, mid, and high running. It effectively makes the top end more rich. When you re-adjust the high speed needle to compensate, the mid runs leaner. It worked for me. It also allows you to make the low speed needle leaner without causing a problem at the high end (the original reason I did the modification).

I now see the Webra 120 is available as an Aero-X version. It has a red head and slightly more power. There are many good engines in this size. Take a look at MVVS, ThunderTiger, SuperTigre, and OS. Quite a few good engines in the 120 to 180 range.

Default Irvine

Sport, I noticed that under your name it says Irvines are devine. Have you considered the Irvine 150, I love my Webra 120, don't get me wrong, but I also have five Irvines and if they are representative of all Irvines the 150 should be great.

Default Moki 120 vs Webra 120

Man, I'd love to try a big Irvine too. Its just much more common to see the big Webra or Moki come up for sale for a reasonable dollar. I'm planning a GB Sukhoi down the road and the so far Webra 120 is the nicest match I've seen for that airframe.

As far as the smaller Irvines go I have 4 right now. 36, 46, 53 and 72. Go Red!!!

Lol, an Irvine 120 just came up in the For Sale Forum for a "reasonable dollar".

Now I just have to find out what muffler works with them.

Default Moki 120 vs Webra 120

I have two Webra 120s that I have run for over ten years and I agree with all the guys above.....great engines. I also have a T. Tiger 120 with about 20 flights on it, and it may be a little bit more powerful than the Webra. RC Report said it was actually a 125, maybe that's the difference.

Question: is anyone running the 2nd Edition Magnum 120? And how does it turn the APC 16 x 8? I would love to know....

Just so you're aware the ol' Irvine 1,20 couldn't pull the skin of a cooked chicken...thus they went back to the drawing board and came out with the 1.50. What can I say about that... well it likes to rev low hence it's attraction to big props er... thats about it.

So, ah, what you're saying is I just agreed to buy a dog??

Okay. How does the Irvine 120 compare to the Moki and the Webra. Power, easy of use, etc, cause I'll have one coming in the next little while.

Old thread here, but what plugs are folks using on the Webra 120? I put a new OS #8 short in the engine and it runs just fine. It is one great engine with an idle as good as any gasser.

I always used an Enya #3 in mine with 10% nitro 16% synthetic oil. Same APC 16x8.

Always good to hear from you and you certainly have had a lot of engines! I'll look up that plug. I've got a MAS 14-7 three-blade on it which works pretty well. That APC would provide more thrust but not the looks!
