RE: ASP FS400AR Radial Engine
You need a 13.4mm drill bit. This is .5275" diameter. It available from Bennet. http://www.bennettbuilt.com/ Doc

Sorry, I meant 17/32.
Anyway, that would be larger than the size you mentioned. The prop nut with the sleeve that goes over the threaded prop shaft measures approximately .526''.

My Fleet PT-6 is coming along. The engine is mounted along with the cowl. I had to cut about two inches from the firewall end of the Fiberglass Specialties cowl and then fit the front section around the cylinders. Didn't come out too bad.
In the next few days I'll see how the adjustable reamers that I ordered work on the prop shaft hole so I can finally get the ASP running.

RE: ASP FS400AR Radial Engine
I really don't have a suggestion for you Mike. I'm winging it myself. I was always taught there was no substitutuion for cubic inches. Besides, you are probably going to need some ballast at the front end to have it balance correctly and it may as well be in the form of cubic inches. The 770 you are referring to, I assume, is the Seidel 7 cylinder (70cc). It weighs 2600g (5.73 lbs.) and the ASP (65cc) weighs 2800g (6.17 lbs.) Of course the Seidel is $1199 vs. $869 for the ASP. I think the gas engine (G62) for that aircraft weighs 5.125 lbs. with a displacement of 62cc. Take your pick.
The PT-17 is an RCM plans model from the 70's. I have a Saito 1.25 in it. The lighter blue one is a rebuild of the original dark blue version. Radio failure caused the rebuild.

Hello fanis-10. Many airplanes are now on the list for the ASP FS-400. What I can recall are these:
Jamara Pitts S-12 giant scale version
Gee-Bee Y in 97'' wingspan, various brand names
Black Horse Wedell-Williams ''Gilmore Racer'' giant scale version
SJN here on RCU has put his onto a FW-190 warbird, from CMP?
Another RCU member put his on an Aeroworks PT-17

Just an update on my ASP 4.00 powered Fleet pictured above. I've finally covered and painted the fuselage. With paint masks an decals from MODELGRAFIX (excellent products), I have added the lettering to the sides. I hope to get the wings painted within the next week.
Does anyone know a source for a quarter scale full pilot figure?

Bob, your Fleet bipe is looking outstanding! [sm=thumbup.gif]
I have NO problem with you posting in this thread, but honestly I think your Fleet deserves an entire build thread of it's own.
If you don't want to do a thread on your own, just post all your build pics here.
As for pilots, there used to be a company named "DGA" that sold full body 1/4 scale pilots in what would be period correct flight clothing. I see them sometimes on flea-bay. Just do a search in Toys and Hobbies category, for "pilot". They do come up every now and then.

RE: ASP FS400AR Radial Engine
Hello,
could anyone give me the weight numbers of the engine mount. With it the engines puts 2800g on a scale. How many grams without the engine mount?

RE: ASP FS400AR Radial Engine
Can anyone give the physical dimensions of the ASP FS400AR? The only thing the web shows is the displacement. That doesn't help much in figuring out if it will fit in the cowl!

RE: ASP FS400AR Radial Engine
Engine mount holes in a firewall requires a 122mm diameter. I measured the radius of the engine from the center of the prop shaft to the top of a cylinder and it is approximately 4.5 inches, so you will need a bit more than a 9 inch diameter for clearance around the circumference of the engine.
It fits perfectly on a quarter scale Fleet with the tops of the cylinders sticking through the cowling.

RE: ASP FS400AR Radial Engine
Four years later I am in the same position as sandman was. He went with a different engine so I will pick up where he
left off and will test the fs400ar in a SiSt FW-190. I obtained a used bird after a landing accident and have fixed the damage. Engine is already in and fits like a glove. Made a motormount which fits the existing holes for the ZG62 motormount.
first tests will be coming weekend with a 22x10 and a 20x8. Really looking forward to it :-D All I need is a new set of pipes but justengines in the uk have them and they are already in the mail.
wish me luck and I will supply tach readings

Hi..
As there was difficult to find info on how well/or bad a Radial engine would work out on a 26-28lb warbird,
I have ordered a ASP -400 65ccm Radial. I guess the only way to find this out, is by trying it out for myself.
As usual on forums like this, there is different opinions. I have been told that this wil work out just fine, and some has said it
is a shure road for disaster... So there is only one way of finding it out, and that is to test it for my self.
I know that this engine is not going to make my FW-190 a speed demon, but that was never my intension. I want something
different from all the other gas engine warbirds. I have a fasination for mechanics (and WWII WB), so I will easy sacrifice
performence for the beuty of mechanical part swinging i harmony :-) Yes, I fly helis too :-)
I`ll do some serious ground testing of this engine. Testing different props and fuel to optimize reliability and performence.
I wil post my results here when I have some data to show.
And if the engine prove to not be unusable in the FW-190, I shure would like to put in the nose of Gee Bee Y :-)
Thaks for listening in..
Beste regards..

RE: ASP FS400AR Radial Engine
If anyone is still using this thread on the ASP 400 Radial, I have a question about the crankcase breather nipple. With the engine mounted, is the nipple pointing staright down or is it to the side?
