The V60 was the old baffle port engine with a one piece crankcase, I believe called an ultra light case or something. Balances my Epade perfectly, I was able to remove all the nose weight. I hope to fly it today with an 11X7.5 prop. I can relate, I have flown my Epade with an Irvine 36, 40, 46, 53, OS46SF, Magnum 52 FS, OS46LA with a pipe and now the ST V60. I plan to install my K&B 61 as soon as I install new bearings and my Enya 45 baffle port and my Super Tigre 40 ,,,if I haven't flown the wings off of it by then. LOL My favorite so far is actually the Magnum 52 FS which is hard for me to believe.

I tried to fly the V60 today and it gave me serous fits with the tuning. Until I remembered that I stole that carb from an older V60 I have ,and took off the pressure tap from the muffler. Runs fine now but by the time I figured it out my batteries were dead.

Which engine? We don't have a listing for a SuperTigre "V" .60 engine...ever. .60/.61-size engines were made in the "G"-series, "ST"-series, "X" series, and "S"-series. We know of no "V" series of SuperTigre engine. How did you identify your engine as a "V"-series engine?

A customer brought them in to our store. I have the older strap on muffler style also. I think I stole the carb off the older one and thus my problems.

hey all. i got the st g51 in a prfile plane of mina and i am wanting a slightly better pull out and power. i currently have a 11x6 on it. im thinking an 12x4 or ive also heard a 11x4 lets it pull more than speed. then again the plane might just be too heavy also. ive got the enging runing fine and hasnt given me any issues for over 8 months now flying this plane but ive just never tried 3d'ing it before now. if any body is using the g51 for 3d what prop are you running??

I understand the APC 12.25X3.75? is popular with 3D, you exchange pitch for diameter to gain thrust at the expense of top speed.

I have my G51 in a speedy plane, a Great Planes Escapade, so I am using an 11x6. But, as Jeffie mentioned, the 12.25x3.75 is the 3D prop for this engine range. I have used a 12x4 in a slower plane, a Sig Rascal and is the right prop for that plane. I have bench tested a 13x4 on a G51 also with reasonable static results, but have not flown it with that.

I think you quoted me 10,000 on a 13x4, but I don't recall if it was an MA or APC. I tested an APC 13x4 on an Italian G51 with bowman ring and a milled spraybar to get 10,800rpm on 5% nitro. If you need more rpm, drop to a 12x4 or equivalent.

Of course you've no listing for that series of engine. Hobby services doesn't seem to have much in the way of information on anything prior to the G series. You guys told me that a backplate from a G90 wouldn't fit an S90. I find that pretty hard to believe. Dig out the microfiche and enlighten all of us, please.

The V60 came in several versions. Early ones with strap on mufflers, later with muffler ears, twin rings, single rings, some with chromed liners some without (regardless of what was on the crankcase). They're highly regarded as a CL stunt engine and one was used by a recent winner of the World Championships. They were based on the earlier 56 crankcase so the 56 was milled off and 60 stamped in its place.

That 10,000 was with an APC 13x4, 5% nitro, stock muffler, and a worn out bearing as well. I consider that impressive. On my other G51 that I still have (Chinese), I have been using a MAC one-piece muffler for lightness. The stock muffler is very quiet, but also quite heavy. I think the MACs one-piece muffler helps performance a bit, but mainly I like it because it is lightweight.

Scrubmonkey, you could get a third-party high performance muffler like the Jett Engineering, or a MACs tuned pipe if you want to go all out. But the tuned muffler/pipes are mainly for high rpms with smaller props, not for 3D. For 3D, I would go with a MACs one-piece because it will reduce the overall weight of the plane.

Also, the Super Tigre experts in this forum will tell you that you will get a much better throttle response (which is important for 3D) with lower nitro content, like 5%. I originally found it hard to believe until I tried it. Now I run nothing but 5% on ST engines (and all my 2-strokes).

I put a .46 size Jett muffler on my G51 and on some props got worse performance than with the stock silent muffler. The next size bigger muffler is the .65-90 pipe which I have one of, and its a behemoth! Not to mention the bolt spacing is 5mm larger on the bigger muffler.

If your G51 has a round spraybar, use a dremel or good file and shave that sucker down flat on either side of the cats eye. This will surely gain you 300-500rpm.

An APC 10x6 was my benchmark prop; 14,550rpm on 5% fuel with G51 round spraybar. 14,970rpm on a thin milled spraybar. .46 size Jettstream muffler gave another 210rpm for 15,180rpm. This is stock cylinder ports and stock carb other than the spraybar swap.

I'll look to see if I have a pic of the flat spraybar from my S90. This is all I have. I can get a better photo after work.

After a 25 year absence from the hobby, in Oct. 2010, I returned and got on RCU for the first time.  Shortly after that, I bought my first engine off RCU Marketplace.  Unfortunately, the seller was not honorable.  He conned me into sending a USPS money order w/o using the offer/seller site.  The ST 3000, arrived in a timely order, but wasn't anything like the ad, broken cooling fins, needle valve unusable and one exhaust thread broken and stripped.  My ignorance quickly vanished and every purchase since then has been excellent and I've "met" several new friends and made numerous great purchases.  I now have several ST engines from a NIB ST .40 thru a NIB ST 4500.  They are robust powerful power plants.  The original ST3000 sits in a box in pieces.  I have plans to exchange the head with one that's in excellent condition and use it on a ST3000 gas conversion that has a "butchered" head on.  I'm a big fan of 4-strokes now, but if I use a two stroke, it will be a Super Tigre engine!

I feel very badly about your ''BAD'' experience. Fortunately most guys that buy and sell are good joes and are honorable. I too have been caught by the not so honest. We just have to check their history. That will help. Also following the guide lines and warnings by rcu helps also!!!!!!!

Mine is like this one.
That is an old ST .60. Also known as the "light case" .60. Very good sport engine. The "pattern" engine at the time was the G-60.

My V60 is still giving me grief. Tried it today with the pressure line off and it was better but still not right. So got the desperate idea to remove the muffler. Big improvement ! However about that time the needle valve broke off. It was sitting there finally idling away happy as can be and the needle valve broke off and fell on the ground. So that engine is sidelined and I will install something else. I am out of FAI fuel so the Enya 45 is out of the question , that leaves the Italian Super Tigre GS40 to bolt on. It seems a good runner, I will have to get some tach readings.

well i tried getting a spare os 46 fx muffler that was laying around with stripped threads onto the st but couldnt get the bolt holes widened enough. i also tried a turnigy 12x6 wooden prop on the g51. all i did was bolt it on and run her up on the ground. well there is alot more pull, lower idle and seems to transition fine on the ground. im just wondering if this is too much prop. the engine is on a profile so no need to worry about cooling and i run 20% castor and 10% nitro atm for fuel. what are your opinions on this?? ive heard that the g51 can swing large or small props.
