Just to show you never can tell with ST carbs, this is the carb from my NIB ST S45 ringed. Same idle needle as mentioned but a similar style barrel type main needle.

My S90K carburetor has the same brass features on the needle valves as your S45 ring engine does, but my other ST engines have different embellishments (if you will). Pictured first is my S90K, GS45/G51, and S29 Carburetors. I have an S45 ring coming in the mail.

Here is a picture of the idle mixture needle from the S40 (19.5mm - too short), and the idle mixture needle from my S90K (26mm - the proper length for the S40 carburetor as well). At some point, someone replaced the needle in this S40 with the incorrect idle mixture needle.

I never knew there was a CLUB SUPER TIGRE but your thread made the RCU Top 15 on the home page. Thought you guys might like this pick of my ST 60x. Nothing sexier than Super Tigre Serie X with header.

I had a feeling there was a big mouth in the carb and a pump nearby. A lot of folks swap another brand carb in for the ST carb which usually ends up in a downgrade in performance. A big pump carb and pump is a little different story on the right engine. You have a beaut there!

Thanks.
That was a 30 year old barn-find 'Tiporare' I restored and flew in classic pattern meets for a few years. But as I said, those were 'before' pics. I lost it in Lancaster Calif last summer. And the ST was junked too...

Has anyone ever tore a ringed ST down to rebuild it or repair it and find the ring gap to be in excess of .010"? I tore an S90 down to clean it up and fix a leaky gasket and noticed the compression was lousy. Checked the ring gap and found it to me .012"!! I have a Bowman ring on hand and the ring gap of it was .0015". Wow that's a difference. I have the main engine parts in an antifreeze bath currently.
