Default Tower .61 Engine

Over the weekend, I mounted this new engine in my test stand to break it in. It sure is a different engine than the Super Tigre .45 that I test ran a couple of months ago. The needle valve seemed to have little range, going from running slightly rich to overly lean in a couple of clicks. It idled OK without having to fiddle a lot with the low speed needle valve. I ran about 36 oz of 15% Wildcat through. It ran OK, but I couldn't tach the engine because my tach gave up the ghost.

This is my first experience with a remote needle valve arrangement. Does that cause adjustment issues? Also my first experience with a Tower engine. All my older engines have been OS or Super Tigre, which I've been very happy with.

Anyone have info/opinions to share on this engine?

Mike

I've never experienced anything unusual about the Tower ball bearing engines. They seem about the same as OS.

With the tuned type muffler they seem to want to be a little rich at midrange

You can move that needle, and mount it in the normal position on the carb if you wish,
and it will be less touchy.
