Default ys 110, ok so it is supercharged, but how much pressure????

Does anyone know just how much pressure there is in the "airchamber" of an YS 110 just before the intake valve opens? I know that there`s one charge of crankcase pressure in there but what does that mean? On a turbocharged car the turbopressure can be 0.2 BAR or 0.4 BAR or whatever(don`t know what that would be in PSI), what is it on this ys 110 engine, that`s what I would like to know

You get two crankcase volumes for every combustion cycle

yes, of course, my mistake, I was not expressing myself correctly but that`s what I ment. But what is the overpressure in PSI or BAR?

Relax,
Any Du-bro fuel tank will stand these pressures.

I`m very relaxed. I`m not worried about the tank(why did you think that?), I have already flown the plane for two years, I`m just curious and want to know what pressure were talking about. If the overcharge pressure is the same as the pressure fed to the tank I mean to have read somewhere that it is about 8 PSI. Could that be correct??

I believe Dave Shadel says 6 to 9 psi.

ok, thanks I just didn`t realize that the supercharge pressure to the combustionchamber was equal to the pressure in the tank.

If you think about it the tank gets its pressure from the crankcase. The tank pressure is held by the check valve and the plenum pressure is held by the rotary valve.

------------

One would have to know the volume of the crankcase, the aperture width and timing of the rotary valve, the volume of the air chamber and a tone of other things.

The easiest method would be to hold off pressurizing the air chamber until after the piston/cylinder combo grabs a gulp of air and fuel through the carburetor, then just before the intake valve closes, squirt the air being held in the crankcase into the induction tract.

Does anyone know if the rotary valve in the crankcase runs at 1:1 speed or 1:2 revolutions per combustion cycle? The latter would make it possible to inject nearly two atmospheres of pressure into the induction tract. It sounds too complicated, even for me, now that I think of it and I can really add lots of unnecessary complication to things. Must be my German half. <G>

I would think it was more like two displacment volumes instead of two crank case volumes since it is the piston - not the crank case - that is doing the actual pumping displacement. There is some loss due to compressing. Also the pressure would be fluctuating up and down so the pressure you want to know about would have to be an average.

Ed, the rotary valve is turned by the crankpin 1 to 1, not only does it charge the plenum but also the rocker arm cover, there are four holes around the valve guide for the pressure to flow up into the rocker area. Everything dumps at once when the intake valve opens. A genius setup. The rockers get a continuous supply of clean fresh oil.

14.7 psi x 2 at see level minus some effeciency loss. The math is easy. The volume is 1.10 cid x 2. add rpm and you can get cfm the engine is using.

Great engines, have 4 ys and all run great and power second to none.

Yep, awesome engines. I got around 12 and have been using them for four years now. All run great with awesome power and sound.

hope i did good anyway, what is the best way to start and brake in??
i use a lot of wildcat fuel do i need 20/20? and what nitro contant???
i am a saito guy trying to go ys.

thanks you just lookin for some info

You did good. Mount it on the bench and run 1-2 tanks through it at a rich setting, then mount it on the plane and fly. YS engines do not require that much break in time. You don't need YS 20/20, but 20% nitro would make the engine idle better and of course give you more power.

Default RE: ys 110, ok so it is supercharged, but how much pressure????

Forgive me but didn't he ask about the boost pressure provided by the supercharger, or did I miss the original question?
This could also be called "Manifold Pressure". This can not be measured at the fuel tank in any shape or form. Fuel tank psi is determaned by crankcase psi and has nothing to do with the blower or manifold psi in a 4-stroke. The boost psi from most blowers (superchargers) is in the 30-60 psi range but depends on the engine application and blower gearing. I doubt the YS blower is this efficient but don't know. Point is that if ya plumbed blower pressure to a plastic fuel tank youd have a balloon that would burst and blow the sides out of your airplane.

What you need is a "manifold pressure guage" to read this pressure. This has nothing to do with the fuel tank or crankcase volume.

He asked how much pressure there is in the "airchamber". The YS doesn't have a blower. It pressurizes the fuel lines and fuel tank.

I'm told the YS 110 does indeed have a supercharger (geared blower) & tho I may have been lied to, I doubt it.
I will tell you this. IF the YS really does have a geared blower, you better not tap into it for fuel tank pressure. Crankcase pressure sure. But not intake/manifold psi.

That is unless the YS has the lamest supercharger I've ever heard of, or really doesn't have one at all.

I have around 12 of these YS engines, and NONE has geared blower. Please read this thread from the first post to see how YS engines pressurize the fuel tank.

Also get on the net and do some research on how a YS engine operates. Here is one link: [link]http://members.cox.net/don.ramsey/YSEngines.htm[/link]

The underlying principle is still the same: cram more fuel and air into the combustion chamber to get a bigger explosion, which yields bigger power. It doesn't matter if you use a blower or high pressure from the fuel tank to achieve your objective. A YS engine still produces a lot more power than a naturally aspirated engine with the same displacement.

Sir I read the original question. After that I read alot of BS about fuel tanks and tapping pressure, then I answered the original question to the best of my ability.

With all respect I invite you to re read this thread and offer an answer that answers the original question.

BTW, how is the blower on you're YS driven?

Here is the original question: "On a turbocharged car the turbopressure can be 0.2 BAR or 0.4 BAR or whatever(don`t know what that would be in PSI), what is it on this ys 110 engine, that`s what I would like to know"

I already answered this in Post #12 above.
