Default OS 120 ax "F" plug?

Has any one tried an F plug in the 120 ax? I remember it helping the mid range in the OS 160fx I had a few years ago.

My flying friend has a 120AX on a UCD 60. It has the original muffler and a OS 8 plug.

His has perfect mixture control throughout the rpm range.

Beautiful running engine

I'm with Jim.

The 120AX is a real fine running engine as is....doesn't seem to need any improving.

G'day Earl,
The Type "F" glug is a hot plug, & if you use nitro in your fuel, it will cause preignition, & could damage your engine, go with a #8 OS plug, it is a medium plug.
Also if your 120AX is not run in properly, it will have mixture issues.

I like the OS-F better than the OS8. IMO the 8 is too cold and maybe good for smaller twostrokes operating at a much higher rpm. These big twostrokes work in the same rpm band as fourstroke and benefit from a hotter plug like OSF, Enya3 .......it ables you to run the engine slightly rich and still gives smoother midrange.

G'day Mate,
You will notice, I mentioned nitro, if you run FAI fuel, no nitro, then the Type "F" plug is good, RPM has nothing to do with glow plug heat range, the amount of nitomethane is what governs a plugs heat range, more nitro "Colder" plug, 0 to 5% warm plug, like a A3 or Type "F", 10% & up to 20%, cooler plug, like a OS #8, above 20% maybe a A5.

Nowadays I run 10% nitro and 20% oil in everything I have. The OS-F gives very low idle on 2 or 4-stroke engines and as soon as you move the stick the engine has instant throttle response, just like a fourstroke engine.
With the OSF the engine becomes less finicky to setup and more reliable, also perfect for cold weather. OS8 is a more durable plug for running high nitro or high rpm. I did run OS8 in many of my twostrokes for a few years so I am not saying it will not work, but the OSF is simply better for the bigger 2-stroke engines. The only important thing is to set the main needle slightly rich.

There is no huge difference between these plugs once the carb is tuned. Its difficult to detect any difference without doing back to back testing. After that you will be happy knowing you are running the best plug.
