RE: Saito 220 or OS FS200
I've searched alot today looking for an aftermarket muffler or header pipe. I've got a question in to Bax to see if O.S offers a flex pipe for it.
So far no one has one.

RE: Saito 220 or OS FS200
Surely SOMEONE will see this as an opportunity to sell aftermarket mufflers!
I imagine the demand for an aftermarket muffler for the latest line of OS FS engines will be pretty good.
Are you reading this, Jim??? (RC Specialties)

RE: Saito 220 or OS FS200
Ken, thing is the saito 220 has a rearward facing exhaust port and with the muffler in place, it does get in the way of the firewall or too close at times. For the OS220, the exhaust port is by the side and with the supplied muffler eventhough larger than the saito, it is fully adjustable in terms of reach as the header is fully threaded and with the angled adjustable exhaust it does away with an aftermarket exhaust deflector. You can also twist it 90 degrees to look just like a pitts which I did for my CAP232.
It suited me fine in my application although I have to add that it is not, I guess suited for every application.

RE: Saito 220 or OS FS200
For my application, I need the curved exhaust header. I'm looking for flex tubing or something to keep from chopping up my pitts cowling. However, other than the straight exhaust header, I like the OS200 so far.

RE: Saito 220 or OS FS200
The exhaust port diameter of the OS200 is unusually larger than even the Saito220 so I can't find a single header that fits except the one designed for the OS 200FI by hatori. Still deciding whether its worth blowing big bucks for the muffler and header combo (approx $150). A pic of the hatori header attached to the OS200 that I just purchased. Needs more copper spacers/gaskets as the depth of the exhaust port is far greater than the OS200FI.

What is your opinion about Enya 155? I have recently purchased a new Enya 155 and what a beautiful engine it is and so is the OS200

RE: Saito 220 or OS FS200
The Enya will need about two gallons of 5% fuel to break in and until then it vibrates heavily and runs pretty hot. Heat cycle the engine in short 3 to five minute runs gradually leaning each run until you get to peak rpm. If the engine will hold peak rpm, run it 100 rpm down from peak for 3 to 5 minutes for several more runs with complete cools downs between each run until you put at least a gallon thru it.
I had to massage the carb and choke detent for proper operation. You choke the engine by setting the carb at idle and pulling the choke rod which slides the barrel to port, pull the prop thru a few times, push the choke rod back in and connect the glow driver. Wearing a glove give it a back flip against compression and it should get going but be careful! Until it's broken in it can bite your knuckles hard!!! I also made a velocity stack to get the fuel back into the carb. The muffler is extremely loud with a sharp bite so I made a custom muffler for each installation. Make sure you don't set the carb too lean on the airbleed. It is easy to get it too lean and it won't transition properly. This engine likes to be a little rich on the low end and even inverted you will get a nice low idle with it rich.
After about ten or twelve gallons I tore one 155 engine down because the front bearing was showing signs of slinging rusty looking oil. I changed both crank bearings but there were no signs of wear whatsoever on any internal parts! The ring still had the machining marks. I do make sure my engines are at least 100 rpm rich at all times running a Cline regulator, they were inverted and run on between 5% and 15% nitro with 18% oil 80/20 synth/castor. On 10% nitro I was getting at least 9000 rpm with an APC 17X6, the same as the OS 120AX two stroke but using less fuel. The engine can also turn a APC 18X6 around 8000 rpm but must be well run in and cooling air properly ducted in and out.
The exhaust on the 155 is probably the hottest of any four stroke I have ever run even when I know it's set a little rich. Overall I thought it was an excellent engine but the stock muffler sucks and you will at a minimum need to get the flex pipe and remote muffler, also make a intake pipe at least an 2.5 cm long to increase fuel economy greatly.
Run it and tell me if you have the same findings. Also if you find you don't have good compression you may have to carefully seat the valves with Mother's mag wheel polish. It is a very fine polishing compound for aluminum and when done properly will not do any damage.

RE: Saito 220 or OS FS200
Thanks Skypilot one! I am really interested to run this engine soon as it looks very powerfull and your tachometer readings shows this is one of the strongest 150 4-strokes out there.
As far as OS200 vs Saito220 I think they can not really be compared because the size, weight and torque is not the same.

RE: Saito 220 or OS FS200
The OS 200 is more in line with the Saito 180 and it's too bad they made it capable of using 30% nitro.
Please make sure you use some castor, heat cycle the engine and don't use too big a prop when you break it in. An APC 16X8 or 17X6 would work good if you have one. Otherwise you might not get the RPM readings I do.
An old friend had the best running engines of anyone I knew. He taught me how to break-in my engines and I've been blessed with good, strong, long lasting motors.

RE: Saito 220 or OS FS200
O.S. is coming out with a pumped version of the 200 and Tower reduced the price on the 200s to $399.00. Now all they need to due is increase the compression and offer an additional head gasket to those who wish to run high nitro like Enya does on their .53.
From website http://www.os-engines.co.jp/english/...sp/fs200s.html
FEATURES
â—New big capacity PD-08 ensures steady running irrespective of l fuel tank position.
â—Handling characteristics are as easy as non-pump engine.
â—Compact and light weight.
â—Approximately 5~6% more powerful than the FS-200S owing to bigger carburetor intake (1.5mm) and bigger intake port of cylinder head.
â—engine mounting size is the same as the FS-120S-E, FS-120SIII and FS-200S

RE: Saito 220 or OS FS200
I just got a OS FS 200S I hope it is a great engine. I plan on putting it on a Goldberg 77" Yak 54. I was hoping you could offer some advice on a prop choice I was running the plane with a Super Tigre 3250 with a 20x8 Master Air Screw with good results up till the crankshaft broke, first time that has ever happened to me. Not sure if the 20x8 will be to big for the OS I was thinking of a 18x8??or 18x10 ?? The Super Tigre was turning the 20x8 at 7200. I hope I made a good engine choice for this plane I enjoy 4 strokes greatly not into the chiansaw effect too much!!?? Thank for any help you could offer.

RE: Saito 220 or OS FS200
I have a 220 and I got a chance to run it on the stand this last wekend.
The engine is 1 oz lighter then what specs say.
I used a 18x12 and after about an hour of run in time the max I took it to was about 7200. From what I have read the needle is about 1/2 a turn rich still and i was useing 15% nitro 20% syn oil.
the book recommended low nitro for the break in.
Vibration is almost nothing. the lowest I could get a reliable idle was 2200 because of the low time and lack of tuning for now.
feels like the ring is starting to seat nicely as i can barely turn the engine over with the prop hub.
I have over 80 gallons of 30% to burn.... after the break in is complete and everything losens up sould be real sweet on the hight test.
the 220 is my first 4 stroke. The low time on 220... it starts ohh so easy, just a bump backwards off the compression stroke by hand and it fires right up.
Its very quite and very low vibration.
I have it in a H9 Sundowner and it came out @ 12.085 pounds.
I went with the saito because the nitro is recommended up to 30% unlike the os at 15%.
I read here that someone said it would be nice if os gave you parts to increase hte compression as to run higher nitro it would be good. Higher nitro needs the compression lower not higher. High compression and high nitro makes alot of power at the expence of creating vibration.
Nitro is an oxegenator thats it. @30% its something like 66% more oxegen in the fuel. Its like a liquid overdriven super charger.

RE: Saito 220 or OS FS200
Well, The latest Sport RC Flyer magazine ran an engine test on this OS 200s. I was disappointed in the results which listed 16.4 pounds of thrust as about the best (15% nitro 18x8 Master Airscrew). I am hoping for about 18 pounds minimum. I wonder of a different prop such as an Xroar, etc. might do the job.[]

Just got hold of the OS200 pump version. The cylinder head is the same as the 200FI head so the hatori header fits perfectly without having to add shims.Weight is up by a bit.
