I wanted to show off my new glow plug harness. 
The stock plug wires have a rubber boot that starts to split and eventually come apart into pieces. The spring mechanism for attaching to the glow plug is a cheaply constructed affair and the brass tube frequently collapses. I suppose this would not be an issue if you attached the plug harness and boot one time and then left it for eternity. But I put mine on and take it off every run. So they have started to fall apart.
The OS harness is a nice looking, well made item. But it will only fit an OS glow plug stem. I am currently using Fox plugs and needed a good harness that would fit the Fox plugs as well as any other including OS.
I made a harness today. It works great. The collars lock onto the plug stem with a set screw. I soldered the other ends of the wires into a 3.5mm gold plug which is a perfect fit for the Microsens connector.
It's pretty slick if I do say so myself. [8D]

Nice job Tom! I love that trick! I'm not sure why people don't believe it works so well...
You know, a coating of liquid wire insulation would help to insulate the outside of the collars as well as give them a 'finished' professional look.
I think I managed to slip some heat shrink over the whole collar and just poked a hole on one side for the plug. The allen wrench for the set screw just poked right through.
Either way looks good!

I haven't enjoyed my favorite hobby in a couple years but seeing these images and talking about modifications and craftsmanship brings forth great memories! Hopefully I won't have to wait too terribly much longer for that wonderful smell of burning exhaust gases and the sound of engines roaring to life...

i have a quick question about the bearing in the master conrod. i have the sc version of this engine and its in bits as the bearings are dead after about 10 tanks of fuel (they are all cheap unbranded bearings in mine) anyway in your engine is there any play in the master rod needle bearing and if not how do i get the old one out? many thanks

There is no play in the caged needle bearing. It should fit over the crank journal and not rock back and forth.
You need a small arbor press to push the old bearing out and the new bearing in.
In lieu of that, you could get creative with some wrench sockets and a bench vise.

Thanks for that, i have at least .6mm play in the bearing and that means you can turn the prop 5 or 6 degrees without it moving the pistons, pretty bad. also both crankshaft bearings are in a poor state and it looks like the front one has been spinning in its housing but its hard to tell, either way its a shame, at least my link pins are ok!

A little update to my custom FS-400.
I made a brass badge, to replace the stock ASP badge. But I was really skeptical about trying to put some writing in it myself, and I also thought it too small and thin for standard engraving.
Doing some research on the internet, I learned there is a new method (to me anyway) called "laser engraving". And a laser engraver can do letters incredibly small. So small that you would need a jeweler's loupe to read them.
Well I found a local business that does laser engraving, and I contacted them. I have a logo I designed for myself back in the 80's. I have even had the logo made into stickers for fun. So I inquired if my logo could be copied and then engraved onto my brass tag. Well, the answer was yes, and no. Can't do color, and the image I had needed to be turned into something called "vector line art". Buggha!
Well, I futzed around with my image using Photoshop and eventually got the color removed and something that I thought might be usable. But one was a jpeg, and one was a png. All I could figure out. Never could figure out what vector line art was. Anyway, I put it on a CD and then went to the laser engraver's shop with it and the brass tag. They were able to celan up the image, smooth it out, etc and make a vector line thing that they could use. Sweet!
So I had them engrave the tag. It looks great! Can't make the letters black, but they stand out well enough. The holes got elongated and my little screws were now too small. So I had some button heads that were a little bigger and able to work but I had to use the original tag as a spacer so there is a slight double line. But I think I can locate some 00 size washers and just use them later.
It's kind of neat to have a custom tag on my customized radial engine. [sm=thumbup.gif]

Carousel.....I spread the word around and most of the feedback I have seen has been focused on poor hardening from the heat treating.

Hey Tom very nice work, as always.
Regarding the black letters: Try just brushing a little fuel proof paint on and then softly buffing with a cloth as it begins to dry. The paint will sink into the laser etching and the buffing will take it off the high spots. Voila, black letters and logo if you wish.

hi guys, sorry for my absence, been busy. anyway the saga of the SC400 continues, i gott the engine all fixed up with the new bearings, ran great no problems. i have put over a gallon through since the rebuild and have been checking bolts for tightness etc with no problems found, today however when flying at half throttle the engine stopped, and that is to say stoppeddead, witha bang, got the model down ok and stripped the engine (pic below) the bolt that holds the cap on the master rod needle bearing had fallen out, it, the brass cap, and the spring washer were then eaten by the engine damaging all of the conrods and destroying the bearing. the master rod and at least one of the other ones are beyond repair, i think i can polish out the damage to the others but would like some input from you guys, i will post pics of the other rods asap
