RE: ASP/MAGNUM FS400AR Rebuild/Overhaul
really like the spinner nuts too but I would leae them as an accessory. Most of these engines are going into scale planes and they usually have spinners so the nice propnut wull end up in the bits box in favour of a propnut and an adapter to tighten the prop on.
In Addition those nice propnuts have a lot more potential to loosen. I like the Old ones.
BUt the propnut on the 400 looks absolutely fabulous.

RE: ASP/MAGNUM FS400AR Rebuild/Overhaul
I thought myself about the scale spinner issue as many people will indeed use a larger spinner and not our little domes. But by the same token alot of people build corsairs etc. As for the issue of loosening i am not too worried as i have used ali and brass dome nuts in the past with no issues. Also we are using a tough material and they will be anodised to prevent scratches and harden the material further allowing for some good torque to tighten it up. That said they are still 'experimental' and if any changes are needed we will of corse change them. But im looking fwd to running the 400 with the dome, it looks nice and the extra weight should help my idle!

ok guys, just ran up the 400 with the 21x8. i calculated 6600 rpm from the performance i got on other menz props and thats what i was hoping for. i was not dissapointed, 6650rpm and a peak of 6700. she sounded good on it as well so when the model is finished i will get her back in the air. also my dome nut worked a treat and looks ace! i will upload a pic later. ow to run the saito 450!

Great to hear you are going to have a go at it jaav, in all honesty i would just put it back together almost as is and only replace really badly damaged parts. Personally i would spend as little money as possible and just see what you get out of it.
Rev, which brand of prop was that? i get abpout 7200 on a classic master. Also check page..23 i think it is for a list of props and rpms.
I have now run the saito 450 and she gave me 7200rpm on the 21x8. the thing is the engine is so hard to tune its jst a pain in the backside. anyway, it ran ok and the power seems better.

Carosel, None of the metal parts can be used as they are full of holes, The crank brngs just fall on the shaft andthe valve train is useless

RE: ASP/MAGNUM FS400AR Rebuild/Overhaul
the covers are off because all the chinese screws were made of cheese and rounded off. i have been to lazy to buy more :P i will at some point get some, its just not been a priority. Ihave also been resetting the timing and so on and as the engine has not been flying much i just have not got round to it.
As for the test standi had a nasty incident with the old one where a laser 360v broke loose on two of the 4 mounting bolts when running at full power. The engine reared up and to the left and if i had not slammed the throttle shut it would have come backwards, broken loose and hit me in the face. I decided at that point i needed something new. The newstand is full of at least 4 different sets of captive nuts for different engines and so far has worked really well!

RE: ASP/MAGNUM FS400AR Rebuild/Overhaul
I used the FS400 as an excuse to build a new teststand too. I redesigned it so the engines are not bolted directly to it. My last stand hat 116 holes(!) in it from mounting different engines and gas and glow fuel somehow always gets into them making the wood quite soft.
The new and improved teststand has four bolts that are fixed and every engine has its ohne 30x30cm Wooden plate that ist simply bolted to the stand. Makes it easy to swap engines at the field As it has been made fuelproof I have a good feeling this will be the last teststand I have to build. The stand is bolted to an aluminium Box that is filled halfway with concrete. AUW 25kg... great fun to lift out of the basement

I did think of doing things that way but was in a rush! also i had some old glass resin that is too goopy to use for models any more so i mixed it up and painted the whole thing with that. the fuel wont get in now! well...not for a while anyway!

Kmot you have us all beaten as you painted it a fancy colour! i had to run some engines on it soon after i built it so didnt have time for fancy paint.
Now, other than my model thats currently out of service, is anyone actually flying their 400 at the moment? if so where are the videos?!

Jaav, im not sure if you spotted my post before but in a shameful piece of propaganda i promoted the Laser 300v for your gilmore, it will have more than enough power for your gilmore.also if your engine in a bin job then i am still interested in the remains. If you do want to part with it then i would like it as is, because worst case i can use the damaged parts as patterns. or i may just use the ebst parts of both engines i have and make one good engine.
Rev, when your model arrives i hope you will be doing a video for us all :P

RE: ASP/MAGNUM FS400AR Rebuild/Overhaul
Of course
It is due in October and from what I have seen it has multiple advantages over the black horse version.
Apart from a sturdier Landing gear the wings are two piece as is the horizontal stab which will make it very easy to transport.
Under that cowl I guess the 400 will just get lost

RE: ASP/MAGNUM FS400AR Rebuild/Overhaul
Ihave seen the ecomrc version in the flesh and the cowl is massive. Also im suprised its taking so long for you to get hold of yours as they have been available here for some time. I am however looking forward to my sea fury finally arriving in october. I still cant decide on the engine as the pacer seems to be well suited to the 400 i dont really want them to part company. i kinda hope my saito 450 fits the cowl as it gives me an excuse to use it!

I am recieving a rebranded Wedell from a local supplier so I have to wait for it. YT always gets the first delivery
Theres no hurry though, enough other test models on the bench (just got the new reworked Parkzone Corsair *YAAY*) and apart from that I managed to pull the gear from my ESM FW-190D9 two weeks ago. So work enough on this side of the channel. [:'(]
