Tom, I wish I WAS Steve Miller! Actually, I was in a C&W band by that name, years before the movie came out, but I will admit that the line.."some people call me the Space Cowboy" was the inspiration for the name! Anyway, back to the subject! With your new info, I'm saving up for one of my own! I have placed an ad here on RCU looking for one, so if anyone would like to make a deal, hit me up! I'm willing to trade up or down, plus or minus CASH for the right engine! I even have some antique IHC stuff if you're interested, Tom! My Dad was a farm equipment dealer years ago, and I restored lots of Farmalls and Internationals, and I've still got my 1937 D-2 pickup! If my memory is right, I think I've seen you on some of the old binder forums, too! I might have some rare IH, Harley-Davidson, Indian, or Hot Rod stuff to trade, if needed! I was recommended to run methanol instead of petrol or gas with the standard carb. I will start with that and see. I have been looking at the carb and intake mods people have been doing that is supposed to be better at evening up cylinder temps and smoother running but I think best to start then make changes step by step, that's half the fun anyway. What I haven't done is open it up and check the e clips on the rods--must do that!
And, despite popular myth, even though nitro will no longer be necessary for ignition, increasing nitro content will increase power output albeit at the expense of decreased fuel economy.

Been a while since I've poked around in here!
Does anyone know if a carb from an OS FR5 300 will fit directly onto this engine? I'd like to know if it fits, as I may be able to obtain one to replace the current carb.

Hi guys and gals! I'm looking for one of these engines, if you know of one for sale or trade, plus or minus cash! If we trade, you WILL come out ahead! I need one for my Grandpa-Grandson project. Glow or gas conversion is fine! I have planes, engines, hot rod and vintage car, tractor, and motorcycle parts, even a good-running car or two! You just never know! Yep, read it myself a few years ago on one of these threads :-)
Borrowed the the carb from my os91FS powered vario helicopter 4 stroke engine, and put it on the radial.
It did not run different, but it was easier to tune.
As you can see, it was easy to remove and test on the radial :-)

I finally got one....Now what?
Howdy all! I finally got one! (I don't know if it's a blessing or a curse yet!) The guy I got it from took it off of a Great Planes Giant Stick XL ARF because it didn't have enough power for "Vertical!" Really? My engine was converted by Adrian at C.H. Ignitions, to run on gas at a 20 to 1 mix ratio. (with a 20% loss in power, from what I've read!) From what I'm seeing on youtube and such, the engine appears to be rather heavy and under-powered, since they're mostly used on 71 to 85 inch wingspan War-birds, or 72 to 77 inch wingspan biplanes! Some seem to struggle, even with that! With all that said, am I safe to think that my engine would probably be fine on my old Pica 1/5 scale Waco? (kit built, not an ARF!) It's currently powered by a Saito 180 4-stroke, which flies it well. It's sad to think that a 64cc, five-cylinder radial only puts out the power of a 30cc 4-stroke engine, or do I have my wires crossed? I've read this entire topic from start to finish, and like so many others, I can't afford 4 grand and up for a radial engine, so this is the best that I can hope for! Any ideas would be helpful. What would be a good guess at all-up weight, minus the engine, mount, ignition, batteries, and such? (almost 7 and a half pounds!) 15 to 20 pounds? I'm scratching my head here, because I've not seen any REAL power figures posted anywhere, that I can use to draw my own conclusions concerning what a good airplane candidate for the engine might be! I had hoped to use it on my 100-inch wing-span Lockheed Vega, but since it's an old-school build, and probably over 20 pounds, I'm not sure if I should risk it. That would make it easily over 27 pounds, all-up weight! I still need to find a Keleo exhaust ring, too! My confidence is waning.....HELP!!!

Cowboy, I would suggest a 1/5 Corsair for this engine as it balances out the plane nicely and it's well documented the power is more than enough (even gas conversion). Plus it's a beautiful bird!

My stock G62 will swing a Zoar 22/10 to 7,000 rpm and weighs 5.5 lbs with the spring starter. My ASP 400 cdi converted on 5% nitro glow fuel with a Keleo exhaust ring will swing the same prop 6,300 rpm and sounds a whole lot better. Properly tuned the engine will make plenty of power for scale flying.

I purchased a used OS FS-91 carb a while back. I am just now installing it and I noticed a big difference in the low speed mixture screws on the ASP vs OS carbs. Just like in your photo here Sonny. The ASP carb screw on mine is backed out the same, and the slot in the mixture tube is fully exposed. The screw on the OS carb is in quite a bit, as is yours, and it covers up half of the slot in the mixture tube. This is quite interesting to me.

Nice to see this thread still alive! I sold my last of the three FS400 about two years ago. Went 100% gas and gave up glow engines altogether...
Well, never say never... while working on restoring a user PZL P.11 mit 2000mm span I noticed, that after glassing it I would be needing some weight in the nose. So I chucked the MVVS 26 out and realized, that the cowl would fit that radial nicely.
Unfortuneatly the ASP FS400AR seems to be out of production... and if you find one then its around 1.200 bucks.
...unless you get lucky that is. Picked one up for 550.-
So its back to the beginning... New bearings, new clips and I am yet again proud owner of one of these jems

Howdy Rev! Glad you're back! I'm still trying to figure out which plane to put my ASP 400 on. I'm leaning more toward my 1/3 scale Balsa USA Fly Baby Biplane, but my Pepino Lockheed Vega 5B is a close second! Any thoughts?......Guys?

I recently moved house and dug out my 'retired' SC400. Before i moved i nailed it to the test stand for a little fun..and what fun, with the new fuel i use these days it performed better than ever. I recently got my rebuilt OS 240 pegasus up and flying in my acrowot xl. This has reminded me of all the multi cylinder fun i used to have so perhaps the trusty radial might not stay retired after all

Great to see these engines are still out there. Pity Saito killed them with their petrol radials. Guess nobody wanted to buy them anymore.

I think the issue is that Sanye are not making any engines at all at the moment. They claim they are moving their factory, but there are suggestions they are done with making engines

Mine has the C.H. Ignitions gasoline conversion done, but Adrian is out of Keleo exhaust rings for it. I wonder if anyone here might have one for sale. I've posted in the various "Wanted" columns, but no luck. I have a 1/3 scale Balsa USA 1/3 scale Fly Baby biplane that I'm thinking of putting it on. I had a really cool engineer friend figure the wing loading, etc., and he said it would be a great choice for the power and weight of the engine. Anybody have any experience with this combo?
