Default Old OS Max 45 F

Old OS Max 45 F with removable front housing. Anyone have a ring that I can purchase? The engine is down on compression but otherwise OK. I want to run the engine backwards in a pusher application otherwise another engine could be used. Does Bowman make rings for the smaller engines?

Thanks.

Bill

Forgot to ask if a ring from another manufacturer might work? Bore is 21.79 mm.

Bowman can make you one in a jiffy. There are probably some OS rings Laying around
hobbt shops. Do you have the part number ?

Don't have a part number and the OS web site doesn't even list the engine in the obsolete section.

I know where to find it (I think), I'll go look. I would go for an OS replacement part first.

.....'yer right....what happened to the .45 ???

http://www.osengines.com/parts/discontinued.html

I believe it has a Dykes ring. I am running a .45 fsr at the present. Those engines don't have
a lot of compression at rest. If the engines idles correctly, and runs good, the ring is probably
in good shape. I haven't thought about getting a spare ring for mine, but it might not be too bad
of an idea. I searched, and found nothing. []

The engine has a conventional ring. I have other engines with Dykes rings and understand low compression at cranking speeds. The piston and ring has been cooking all day in antifreeze hoping it will free up.

Thanks. I have written Frank Bowman. It's been over 30 years since I last broke a ring but this one is hard to find so ... Well you know how Murphy's law works.

You can send your piston and sleeve to Frank and he will make a ring if necessary. He will also install it and hone the sleeve for you. What will we do when he stops providing his services?[]

Dave,

I receive an email from Frank Bowman indicating he had the ring and that it was OS 45H. Monday I will order the ring.

Thanks for your help.

Bill, glad I could pass along the info. Someone here, probably FBD, passed it on to me a while back which was a great help.

Hello,

i received from a person a plane with an OS 45 F. I am putting this engine back in good shape but the ring is broken. I have found your thread in this forum, hopefully. Could tell me how to contact Frank Bowman as i would like to order him a ring from my engine.
Thanks a lot for your help, i didn't find here in France any supplier that could do this.

Pierre.

Or someone younger will take his place. Bowman is a wizard, but we do have young wizards in training, you know. <G>

I received the ring from Frank Bowman today along with a ring for another engine. It was a pleasure doing business with Mr. Bowman.
