Default New engine storage

I bought a new Irvine .72 about a month ago and due to an illness and haven't ran it yet and it may be a while before I can. Right now it is in the plastic zip bag and box it came in. Do I need to oil it or anything until I'm able to get around to running it? How long do you suppose I can wait before I need to run it?

Thanks in advance,
Big Pete

The engine is still coated in the machining oil they used when they manufactured it. You shouldn't have to worry about rust for a long time, especially since it hasn't seen any fuel yet. Methanol is hygroscopic(?), that is, it absorbs water, and any resudial methanol will draw moisture into the engine, which is how the rust starts.

I drop in a couple of the little desiccant containers you get with bottles of pills , will absorb any moisture. And there free!

If it hasn't been handled too much out of the box, just leave it alone...NIB engines don't have a shelf life within a reasonable timeframe (measured in years). I've had engines in the box for months, even a couple of years before I actually used them and they were pristine when I finally got to them.
