Default Please! What Engine Do You Sugest? For.........

Hi I plan on building a SUKHOI 26mx, its an old GOLDBERG model with a wing span on about 72.5in and is asking for an engine being a .90-2 or a 1.20-4 stroke. Its flying weight would be at about 8.2 to 0 lbs. SO WHAT DO YOU SUGEST? With your experiences out there in the model airplane field what what do you think?

It would be wonderful if it was not expensive im only 18 and still in school, and extreemly reliable and if you now much about it could you give me your input on it, please!?

Your Help it greeeeeeeeeeeeat!!!

thank you very much

BigB

You might want to do a search here for "goldberg sukhoi". It's great plane but it's not uncommon for it to finish over 10lbs, so you probably want to go on the high side of the engine recommendation. A 1.20-ish 2-stroke may be your best bet in terms of performance and cost.

I've seen several fly beautifully with the Saito 150...Some who fly it with the Saito 180 for great 3D preformance.

Yes but I have been told that putting an engine on that big it would possibly hurt the frame of the aircraft of even break the wings right in half.

oh i know that you said something bigger than a .90 2 stroke, but what about the 90 supertiger? do you really think that it will be under powered because I still want it to be able to do all it should be able to.

saito 150, with my 72.5 wingspan? i dont know just asking

thanks again!!

Hideho Big B,

I have the H-9 Chapman Cap with the 150 and it's 73 inch w/s.
Many like the 180 in it that I've seen.
If you wish to do mainly IMAC then smaller would be fine I think.
My buddy has the Golberg your speaking of and it's built as light as can be, and he flys it with a YS 120.
Perfect match, BTW and the Saito 150 is very comparable to the YS in terms of power.
He likes to fly 3D as well as I do, and neither of us wouldn't think of going smaller in either of these planes.

But hey, that's why you posted the question, opinions vary. Your looking for feedback before you sink the bucks into the wrong engine I'm thinkin'.

I just gave you mine, I hope you get other opinions too.

Good luck and please keep us posted on your progress and flight test.

BTW, I just read the last of your post and read that your on a budget, and are 18. Hmmm, I bought my first Saito 150 used, online, very low time for 200.00 shipped. I just got a newly overhauled YS 120 for 160.00 with new bearings, piston and sleeve at a recent swap meet.
I hope this helps,
Mike

Use a TT 1.20 pro or Webra 1.20 or any 1.50ish 4 stroke. The one I have had a Webra 1.20 and flew well for many years. It had an ecounter with a tree because the previous owner had a slight vision problem that day! Build it well and it will serve you well for many years.

I think a .90 would be just a bit small, It would leave much to be desired, and you probably would not be happy. I would go with something a bit larger. Sticking a Saito 1.8 or 1.5 would be great. As long as you manage the throttle you should have no problems structurally. What it comes down to I guess is what you can afford.
Check in the swap forum for deals.

Magnum 108 would be a good choice, I have a young friend (16 yr old) who flew the Chapman Cap his first year of IMAC with a OS 108 and did well.

What's the best price on the Mag 108 your finding?
I'm with the above folks on the Webra 120 or the TT120 Pro for a 2 stroke application. Trust us, you won't be overpowering it at all with the above recomendations.

Default Ok

Alright Mike thanks for your help and great input
I found the magnum 108 for 100$ barly used too!
but did not order it. I found it here on this web site
to bad though may old friend that I am building this plane with already purchased a YS 1.20-4 stroke, mabe I can get him to take a look at something bigger. He purchased it because he only had a few days left on his membership to the place where he got it and he got about 30$ off of the price. Still more than that engine or a webra that I saw used for 160!!!!

so how long have you been flying?

thanks again!

Had one with a Webra 120 Bully in it . I had an overheating problem with that big round open front even tho I had an after market glass cowl with open vents. I had to close off 1/2 of the front to solve the problem. It was all the power it needed and then some. It had no bad habits. Wish I hadn't sold it. Have the Yellow Sukhoi with a YS 140 I'm getting ready for flight now. Hope it flys as good as the Goldberg.
