RE: , ASP 120 4stroke
Hi,
Thanks W8YE. I was thinking along these lines myself but since I cannot test for some time, thought I'd ask.I do remember tweaking the needle valve leaner now I think about it.
Cheers and thanks,
Merlin Man

You didn't say what percentage nitro you were using. Nitro in an overheated engine will cause pre-ignition and cause it to stop. To make your engine more tolerant to "less than optimum" needle settings, either use less nitro or add a head gasket.

Hi,
Yes, I am using 15% nitro. The instructions say that this is the maximum to use.
I guess my problem lies in the fact that the engine is not powerful enough for my liking and I try for max. performance. I am getting approx. 8,200 rpm on either an APC. 15x8 or 16x6. Should I expect more than this ?
Cheers,
Keith.

that engine is not as powerful as an OS 120 surpass or a saito 125. use 5-10% nitro fuel with some castor in it. tune it a little rich of the peak rpm. use 14x8 or 15x6 prop as suggested above.

Hi,
Thanks to you guys , I have just had 2 very good engines runs (and flights ) with the ASP. I simply "detuned" it ! I use the same 16x6 prop, and ran up the engine to peak 8,200 , then richened the needle valve about 3 clicks so that it dropped to about 8,000rpm. The engine started out a little rich, but soon after take off, it leaned out and ran great with good power and no stopping ! Very happy.! Thanks again.
Cheers,
M.M.
