Default falling british pound.

The recent exchange rate of the falling pound vs. US dollar has made the price of engines at just engines more apealing. A new MOKI 180 is now roughly $255US, that's a pretty good price. The Just engines folks are some great people, I may have to order something before the pound rebounds.

A Irvine .53 is about $86[sm=omg_smile.gif]

That's about what it was in '86/'87 when I lived in London. We thought it was bad then.

Argggg. I just sent in the check for two more years. OH well. It's the best magazine in the market that I can read, so it's still money well spent.

You think *you've* got problems...

The Kiwi dollar was up around US0.80 not so long ago it bottomed out a week or so ago at around US$0.53.

That makes a *HUGE* difference when buying stuff from overseas and has even hit local prices. An OS#8 glow-plug is now nearly NZ$15 that's a sixth the price I paid for my last .90-sized engine (when the Kiwi dollar was its peak)!

The USD has lost strength against the JPY (100yen = $1.12) which is why, I'm sure, Enya Direct is running their 15% off "Christmas Sale."

If the Pound is falling versus the USD and the USD is falling versus the Euro which it is then that has to be putting a real hurt on Ireland.

OWCH!

I don't think I'll be buying any more Saitos for a while they're good but even the smaller ones like the 82 are too expensive now (NZ$450 and climbing rapidly).

Mind you, that compares to something like an OS FL-70 which currently sells here for NZ$528 and the OSFS-70 Ultimate which costs NZ$799. (gasp!)

Yes those numbers are ridiculous even after converting to USD. I also suspect you are paying a bit more than $1.69 USD for gasoline.

Horizon lists the FA220 for $579.99. When I convert $876 from Australian dollars to USD I get $595.77. That's $18 more, but not a huge amount. What were they going fof six months ago?

Contact a PAW dealer in GB, you may score a deal, the exchange rate today is 1.5 US to 1 pound.

Back early June 2001, the USD to British pound exchange rate was 1.3798 and I bought 3 ASP four strokes that day from Just Engines.

The rate has gone up ever since to over 2.0 in recent months

I bought a moki 1.35 from just engines in 11/06 when they had a sale running on them, the engine was 110 pounds delivered to me and the exhange rate at the time was like 1.8 to 1 or so. They said they will never sell them that cheap again!

I wish they were still selling the "english made" Irvine engines, I really like them.

Not a expert on Ireland but it is probably hit the same as most EU countries in the EURO

The GB pound has also got a VAT break down to 15% compared to France and Germany 19% and Ireland 22%

For me lots of stuff I get is from either Germany because post from Germany is so cheap.Failing that France as post is cheapish. But certian Items come from Ireland as they have it in stock and the others are all still saying back order and prices are OK but postal cost is not great .For us in EU we got to pay the VAT rate of country of purchase and the GB convertion costs of currency from Euro to sterling and crazy high postal costs from UK often means that Germany is still often the cheapest .For USA purchases the VAT rate isn't applicable. Tend to find the huge costs to do trading in all Europe make the USA often the cheaper place to order from compared to any EU place including the UK.The bombing dollar also helps this process. But I cant get two day postal from USA so I prefer to remain with the EU faster postal service or just buying the stuff in the LHS when i am in a real hurry which is most every week.

When the USA can beam me the gear direct in seconds like star trek then i will probably by everything from there

G'day The day before the Great Financial Mess started to bite, the Australian Dollar was at US$0.97. Now it is sitting at about US$68 which us up a bit from its worst position. A year or so I bought a Kadet LT25 kit here and it cost me AU$ 125. They sell for US$99 or so and so the Australian price was quite reasonable. I was quoted on one a couple of days ago. They wanted AU$495. That's a nearly 400% increase. Either someone can't do their maths or someone is hoping (in vain) to make a quick buck. So I bought a World Models Super Stunts instead for AU$165 including delivery to a country area. Much more reasonable.

I bought one of those when the Kiwi dollar was strong I think it was NZ$129. Pretty good value.
