If you do this it will run slightly lean inverted, but with plenty of muffler pressure it may not be noticeable. You have a point about most (not all) slow flying aircraft, however it is moot because you rarely if ever fly them inverted, so in mose cases tank position is not critical.
The spraybar and the fuel tank centerline should be dead even, IF equal performance with suction feed is really important.

That 3/8" low tank becomes a 3/8" high tank with down elevator and the engine will sense the difference in head.

All good observations and statements. How about a round tank,tapering to the rear, then have a ball swivel on rear. The front of tank would be allowed to rotate around to follow planes attitude. That way the tank/carb relationship would be constant. Anyway, keep smiling, it confuses 'em. Good luck, red
