The spraybar and the fuel tank centerline should be dead even, IF equal performance with suction feed is really important.
Ed,
If you do this it will run slightly lean inverted, but with plenty of muffler pressure it may not be noticeable. You have a point about most (not all) slow flying aircraft, however it is moot because you rarely if ever fly them inverted, so in mose cases tank position is not critical.
The tanks position becomes ultra critical when high levels of both +/- Gs are experienced in a flight. That 3/8" low tank becomes a 3/8" high tank with down elevator and the engine will sense the difference in head. You will know that your setup is good when theres no mixture change between max-G inside and outside manuvers.

Correct, but being 3/8" above or below will make little difference with G effect. It will vary with the fuel level in either case, and that would be a larger variable. Mounting it below the centerline, not necessarily exactly 3/8", is better than mounting it at the center line where you know the head will change when the vent goes from top to bottom. A uniflow would be even better, but only a regulated pump or regulator will get rid of head from G effect. IMO not a big problem.

All good observations and statements. How about a round tank, tapering to the rear, then have a ball swivel on rear. The front of tank would be allowed to rotate around to follow planes attitude. That way the tank/carb relationship would be constant. Anyway, keep smiling, it confuses 'em. Good luck, red

Hi!
Either using the Uni-fow set -up or using the ultimate tank , the Tettra "Bubbleless"! No more tank problem.
