Come on Dave,
So everybody, just ignore all suggestions not yet proven to and approved by Dave Hobbs?
Old "I tried that one day and didn't see a difference"
My proof is first hand , broad based, long term experience as well as good logic.Other than that, I am offering that experience to others. It not only does no harm but actually has shown real improvements over all.
Nobody owes YOU proof.

You mean like the proof regarding the repaired 65 needle valve? The "Labyrinth " seal? The 60 ma CDI system? ......among others. If you had done your homework before making your unwarranted assertions there would have been no "proof" required.
I have offered a truthful report on nearly forty years experience with vent experimentation . This includes engines of all types , not just my own but from all types of people in all types of flying from land and water. The reasoning is sound, the results are quite real. Not just a single short term half A try out.
If you are trying to imply it is all a lie, why should I bother?
The best "proof" comes from those who actually have run the modification, long term on engines, preferrably many engines.
That is what I invite people to do. Easy to play the Nattering Naybob Of Negativity role that you like to take on, but why?

Maybe I have a lot more real experience than most on the subject. I am just offering that experience as a starting point for open minded people to try out. It certainly will do no harm and they may actually learn something.
We hear plenty from you , with your lack of same.
So what?
Dave, why not just come out and call me a liar. Proof is often just wasted on you anyhow, You too often just double down, change the subject or walk away when the proof is in front of you. On rare occasions, you may "admit" but only after doing the damage and spouting off.

Dave gary has made some good points...and you can be a stubborn old coot at times. He likes to experiment and most people here like what he does, why put a downer on it?
One of my high mileage fa82's still going strong with the standard set up and 3% castor oil,i have a rear vent fa115 and the pushrods and cam are never dry on stripping the engine.

Even when positive proof is presented you still refuse to accept things that anyone with common sense could see clearly. You will even go so far as to refute the knowledge of those with far more experience than you.
Case on point, you absolute refusal to accept the firing order of Harley Davidson "V" Twin street engines.

Perhaps he can cite such an example, but I doubt it.

Dan you're years behind the ball,on this one, I accepted your correction on the Harley thing right away and I never said Gary couldn't have an pinion, our opinions are allowed to be different. I can state mine without getting mad or shouting.

Single Malt beer substitute.
Some folks think Abraham Lincoln was homely.
I call that an "opinion"
Most folks realize he is dead.

Hi All,
Picked up a 180 for $50 of flee bay, full of rust and work cam, and lifters, I knew that engine would be bad, just wanted it, it has very good compression, and spins a 17-8 at 8500rpm with more to go, Stripped and cleaned up the crank, cam and associated parts, ordered new bearings, cam and lifters, and them machined up new muffler, and modded the cam cover with a new vent nipple. Will cap the one in the back cover.
Cheers
Andrew

Very nice Andrew. I really like that vent fitting location.
Should greatly improve overall oiling up front. Both running oiling and after the run oiling

Jesse, thank you, I done some more with it this arvo, as the 180 has a cast inlet manifold, so after checking dimensions, I fitted a nipple in the inlet manifold, will be able to use as a sort of PCV system.

Do let us know how that works for you. May take a little fiddling. I am very certain that cam vent will work well.
I just made a deal for a Showtime 90 with a Saito 115 on the nose. Club member is dropping it off tomorrow.
Vent relocation is first order of business I might as well use your location very tidy. It will be using the Saito trashcan muffler but fitted with a super size tailpiece. Good power gain and the sound as well.https://archive.org/download/AA8EC8C...F2A8D99EBF.mp4

Jesse, no problem, the center for the cam I drilled at 4mm(0.1575) from back of cam cover and 4mm(0.1575) from the side of the cam cover, and drilled in the same plane as the inlet lifter. Here is how it will look when assembled, still waiting on parts.

For 120 to 180-a
Andrew, did you intend to buy the 180-B gaskets, the engine shown is a earlier 180, engine code OO. Thanks, Dave

You would think, for as much as they charge the gasket cutters would simply include both cam box gaskets in the sets. Pretty much standard practice with gasket sets for full size engines.

Andrew i'm looking forward to see how the recirculating goes for you, i've thought about doing that to one of my fa82's just to see how it affected tuning, especially at idle and throttle up.

Hi All,
Got all the missing parts, assembled and have now run. Work well, you can now see the oil traveling in the tube to the inlet. Still running rich in the idle mid range, idle needle had be opened up 5 turns by the previous owner, don't know why. Could not run much with the old bearings, now will finish up the settings and then fit to aircraft.
Hobbsy, I all ready had the gaskets, ordered them with the bearings before disassembly, and that is when I found the bad cam. Can be seen running at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7z46...ature=youtu.be closeup of tube to see flow at 3:20
Cheers
