Dar, I may have come up with the reason for my 100% success in the cam area, I use Corrosion-X as an after-run and when I inject it into the crankcase some nearly always comes out through the front bearing. I have no proof that this is the reason but it makes sense. The CX coming out through the front bearing has never caused one to leak. One would have to be careful what lube you placed in the cam box, grease would simply get pushed out of the way and do nothing. As light as the loading is on the cam followers, additional surface area wouldn't do much.

Maybe it is really so...
This oil has a strong penetrating property that makes it flow through the smallest orifices and get nearly anywhere...
Some penetrating spray oils (WD40?) have this capillary action as well, but are extremely lacking, as far as extreme pressure attributes go.
I.e. they cannot be expected to protect high-load locations, such as between the cam-lobes and the followers.
Neither castor oil, nor most synthetic lubes in model fuels, have this penetration property, which is why some posters in the Saito 1.15 thread found the cam-box completely devoid of lube...
Because of this, I believe it is a 'dereliction of duty' on Saito/Horizon's part, not to tell Saito users that they must verify the lubrication of the cam-box components...

I just bought a new-style backplate for my .72. JUST put it on this weekend. Even then, I'd still prefer an aluminum one. This post should have come out last week? :P

So, maybe I missed it in there somewhere, but will the new aluminum backplate fit on the old-style 82? I finally figured out I had an airleak on my backplate on my 82, and sealed it with orange RTV. Wow, she runs a lot better now! Just hoping it holds up...

Personally I was hoping Saito would come up with something like what OS has done to eliminate the messy crankcase breather tube. My .82 runs flawlessly though.

Well, that put's it back to the price they were asking for the 82; must be one reason why the price dropped on the 82. blowin' out current stock to make way for the new, higher-priced version! Maybe I oughta buy a current one now...

There is also an issue with the valve-train design and lubrication, illustrated some time ago, [link=http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_8417255/anchors_8417255/mpage_1/key_/anchor/tm.htm#8417255]in this thread[/link].
I hope, also for Saito's sake, that they took care of this issue; which possibly affects their engines that have the small-diameter lifters (SAI5038), along with a stout cam profile.

RE: New design Saito 82
I fly c/l and used the Saito 72 instead of the 82 just because many people told me the 82a would vibrate a lot more then the 72.
I wonder if the new 82b will shake less then the 82a. I am hoping that the extra weight is all in the crank and the piston is lighter
Can't wait to read the reviews about this engine.

Hey guys. Don't know if this is old news but there is a guy selling beautiful aluminum backplates for your 82s over on the Profile Brotherhood site. $25 FOR BACK PLATE, SCREWS, VITON O-RING SHIPPED. Great deal!
Just ordered one for my 82 after seeing my buddies.

Looks like we are getting close.... "0 Units in Stock This product will be in stock on Thursday 17 December, 2009."
but they don't show the backplate or the crankcase as a part listing yet. Not really in a hurry. Damn winter.

When these engines do arriive, they may not show up as "In Stock" for Horizon will honor all the back orders in chronological order as received first. There's usually none left after that. You will have to wait for the 2nd batch to see them shown as "In Stock"

I admit, I don't have any troubles with the new style plastic backplate I installed on my .72....
But I'll buy an aluminum one and install it if for no other reason it's too dark and cold to fly, and tinkering is the next best thing...
