I am suprised at some of these answers. Not going to start a war here, but some of these listed I had hell with. I guess anyone can make a lemon.

They are all good if you know how to adjust them, If they wern't they still wouldn't be in business. My favorite engine is a Profi .61 that looks like a huge TeeDee .09.

The reason I listed the ST GS.40 is, I have 2 that are lend out on trainers all the time. I dont know how many pilots have learned to fly with them, but quite a few. They havegiven great service and only cost $49.99 and truly have been abused. They just seem to get better the more times a newbie slams them into the ground. lol

My MVVS and Webra's are my favorite schnurle. The HB, ST/ Como and PDP K&B's are close second's. Honestly, I like all my engines. I need to build a display case as I just enjoy looking at them as well.

My favourite, based upon my particular usage, has to be the OS25FP. Mine has been in use since 1986. Easy to start & continues to produce very good power. Has always idled reliably. Has powered a variety of models over the years and survived the occasional bingle. Highly valued by me [8D]

Bone, Does the FP 25 have the Iron piston? or the ABN setup. I have the .20 FP with the Iron Piston and it still has strong compression after all these years.

Controlliner, I bought my engine in early 1986 but the OS timeline indicates the OS25FP (1st version) engines were released from 1983/84. That being said, I'm sure mine has the iron piston - it certainly loves the castor oil I feed it - and yes, the compression is right up there. The overall quality of that series of OS FP engines is simply superb [8D]

YS 45 FR (rear exhaust) I ran the snot out of it for 5 years and several bearing changes. Finally, it looks like its loosing power. Not a problem, I was so impressed by it the in the first few years, I collected a drawer full of them for a lifetime supply, most NIB.[sm=regular_smile.gif]

Honorable mention:
OS46VXDF (turning a prop), OS70 Heli (turning a prop), OS 32SX, Webra 55 GT (black head), OS 55AX, Evolution 46NT. Mark 210.

my best engines are
gms .47 good power, idles better then most, reliable, best idle to wot of all my engines (instant spool up)
os .40 fp, this poor little engine will turn a 12x4 prop around 10500 on 0% nitro, will idle all day (no joke) and still go to wot like i just started it. very reliable
magnum .91 fs, very reliable makes a ton of power, uses a little bit more fuel than a .46, idle is a little high, midrange and wot are great

the ok ones
ax 55, reliable now that i got it diled in but it lags in the midrange , idles and wot are fine.
magnum .52 xls its picky to tune on the low end but midrange and wot are good, it idles fine once you get it diled in
os .46 la, would rank in the best engines catagory if it didnt burn fuel like crazy, burns the same amount if not more than my magnum .91 fs

i didnt list a few that i havnt had enough time with

My Favorite 2-stroke would probably be my Webra .91 P-5.

It's the smoothest running, most consistently reliable engine i own and runs on just 5% nitro with gobs of torque for it's capacity. It out turns an OS .95AX by 300-600rpm depending on the prop size.

I don't have one particular favorite, but Webra, Enya, Moki/Mark, the old K&B's, Super Tigre, MVVS, O.S. and Evolution are the ones I've been using the most.

Fitzpatrick .61 is a beautiful engine.

Nelson and Jett are in a class of their own of course...IMO anyway.

Even the MDS .78 I got from a friend runs very well.

Mecoa .46
Mecoa .25
Aviastar .46
Thunder Tiger Pro .61
RJL/Kraft .61

If I could only pick one, the Mecoa .46 for user friendliness, power, consistancy and durability.

hi great response-good to let everyone what works -as some two cycle engines are just better than they are supposed to be - been working with a few EVOLUTIONS at the field-46 5261 -not a lot of time using them but for the money i do think they have not yet been recognized for the great engine they are-have a 52 helion a 11/6 APC turning 14,800 RPMS all the EVOLUTION ENGINES are true ABC constructionnot nickle
like to ad the new EVOLUTION 61NXthat is a 46 case punched out to 61-and therefore very lights/b the next 40 size airframe stump puller (just love saying that ) ENJOY REGARDS TONY 'the omega man " think pink-to keeps your glo engines new internally ! !

THE best one so far is the OS 1.20AX. Easy to break in, easy to start, very reliable, and a powerhouse.

David
I just bought one, glad to hear this. It was pretty expensive. I plan to use it on either a discontinued Goldberg Wildstick 1.20, or make that a Saito 1.50 powered plane?
Or I can upgrade my Super Tigre 90 to AX 1.20 on a Super Sportster 90/120 kit built plane. I'm leaning toward the Sportster.

What prop did you use David?

My favorite engines are by size.

Best .25 is the OS FX.
Best .40 is the HP Silverline
Best 45 is Rossi
Best .53 is Rossi
Best 61 was a RF on pump and pipe, best tuning, best performing on an Ultra Sport 60.
Best 1.60 is a OS FX.
I haven't had much experience between 90-120 size.

Dont laugh pleeze. I loved my ,dare I say , Fox Eagle 60. Was on my very first airplane with a Hobby Lobby 5 radio. (pleeze no laughing). Lost the airplane due to defective tx crystal (according to HL). Still have the motor, the largest piece was that I found was the muffler (no snickering). Still have the Radio too!! I also liked and still have a Merco 61

I won't laugh - that was my first RC engine back in 1973. I had it on a RCM Trainer 60 and learned to fly with it. Lost the plane by flying it into the side of a school (poor depht perception[&o]) on landing but I still have the engine and it runs as sweet as ever. Not as strong as a modern engine but still a very good engine.

Amen on the .049, who hasn't had one of those evil contraptions. My right pointer finger is 1/2 shorter, trying to start a Testors .049 on a plastic U-Control I got for Christmas in the '70'S. Listen for the sizzle and start flipping like hell, only to get a burp out of the engine. Then when it did start it was running backwards 8 out of 10 times. Wouldn't trade it for a million dollars, the fun my brother and I had flying Controlline. Times where much simpler.

My Testors .049 put me in the emergency room of the local hospital in 1971. I had just gotten it and was breaking it in when it backfired and cut my finger. It was a minor cut but the prop was a black plastic one. Unknown to me it left a very small sliver of plastic in my finger. About four hours later the finger started to swell with red veins running out of the cut - yep, the start of blood poisoning. My wife took me to the hospital where they lanced the finger, found the piece of plastic, and gave me many shots. Two days later all was healed. I still have that engine and it is in Scientific Models wood log PT-19. It is a good engine - the only good McCoy I ever had.
