I have a number of Chinese engines and I agree about the carb thing, however there still are very few 40 size engines that run any[:@] better than the FSR.

I think more than a few if you look. SF, FX, AX...Irvine, MVVS, Jett, Picco, Megatech, and some would say Fox and Super Tigre who have a knowledge of tuning them.
FSR was just another OS. I have about 5 FSRs, I see nothing unique about them by today's standards.

Nickel is not magnetic, only the cylinder liner is, if made out of steel A true ABC engine stands for. Aluminum Piston, Brass Cylinder Liner, That Is Chrome Plated. I remeber back in the late 80's when O.S. changed it's manufacturing process, to the less costly nickel plating plating. They had a rash of the nickle peeling off the liners, this happened to me with a SF .61. The SF I believe was the first generation to use the nickle plated liners, not the true FSR's. And it is true the muffler mount on the FSR's was it's one weak point

My absolute favorite is the Detroit Diesel. Without having to fix so many of the dinosaurs, I could have not been able to afford this great hobby.

One of my favorite was a Irvine 1.20, the carb on it is so linear that it would throttle like a electic motor, almost perfect.

My personal favorite of all time is the OS Max 61 FSR ABC. WOW what a great motor.
In fact, if it says FSR anywhere on the motor then it's a keeper.
Why did OS ever stop making these motors?
Once you have achieved perfection there is no place to go but down.

Never had an FSR heard they were great engines. Had the 25 sf and loved it but it had that classic OS sort of way that you could really hear the carb sucking and it was a little grizzly off tickover when applying throttle. Nice though. Had the chance of an FSR I should have took it heard they were the best from alot of people.

Fora .15, Rossi .15, Norvel .074 and .049/.06, ASP and AP .15, (and maybe a Tee Dee .049 for old times sake but too outdated) Oh there aren't any OS motors, maybe the LA .15 and.40.

You make a carb adapter for the engine. That adapts the other brand carb to the Fox flat flange carb setup. Fox used to make a Perry carb adapter that they used on the old Tower Hobbies 60 engines they sold at the time. Other people made various adapters too.
Here is one example of a Helicopter engine carburetor adapted to be used on a Fox .60 or .74 engine.

I'll throw my two cents into this old thread.... I've had great success with the OS LA & FP lines. I fly a lot of the old bearing engines in my SPADs, I don't take care of them worth a dang and they just keep on going. When one is finally worn out, I just toss it in a bucket and take off what parts I can to use on another one because I buy them used and cheap online. Not worth a major overhaul of one. I also have several OS46FX engines that I have gotten great service out of.

My favorite engine is an Enya SS30bb. It throttles flawlessly, and never quits. Lapped iron/steel engines are my favorites by far. My AAC Jett .35 is my second favorite.
