I had a wasp 049 I stuck on the front of one of those styrofoam gliders they sell at the mall at Christmas time. Fired it up and it flew away into the sunset at about 10 mph. We ran as far as we could but could not keep up. It just flew into never never land. Good running motor. Not much power but was worth losing it for the kick we got out of chasing it.

Right now my favorite is my old Irvine .36. Dead reliable, great power, smooth throttle, instant starts. I'm always amazed at how consistent the power is despite my cursory needle adjustments.

My Irvine .39 is really good too. It does need a bit more attention to the carb adjustments, but it's fantastic when dialed in.

They both make terrific power for their size and weight.

I ran my Irvine 36 on my Great Planes Escapde 40 , it dragged it around just fine. Took off from grass and super reliable starting. For some reason mine would stall on long climbs, I think it had a tank problem, never figured it out and have since swapped it out with different tanks and engines.

OS doesn't make an ABC engine for airplanes. I don't think they ever have.

If that's the case, I wonder why they started to cheap out using nickel and charge the same or more for their engines. Nobody has ever been able to say why either. Their car engines are true ABC..

Seems like we suspected that it was Nickel used back then too.. so could have been actually an ANC motor (I think would be right).. Who knows. Either way, I loved them

I'd bet it was ABN. That's why Performance Specialties actually made a replacement piston and liner that was true ABC for the Hanno engine. The nickel peeled on a lot of them.

The old OS lapped engines were really good I understand though. My buddy picked up an old Max .15 lapped engine for dirt cheap NIB from an RC car shop.

I have three examples of the OS .15. An older one with the pre schnuerle porting and iron piston(not the really old one with the turned fins) and FP and a few LAs. They all turn about the same rpm and are great runners. The LA may be slightly faster and lighter than the FP but seems like it was made to be cheaper with the 4 bolt head and corners cut out, and the plastic backplate, and the missing boost port, but it is lighter and marginally faster so? OK with me.

My buddy's is the old cross-flow version I believe. I had looked at the same engine but the piston/liner fit seemed pretty loose compared to my lapped Enya so I didn't buy it even though it was only $20 or $25. I prefer to stick with Enya, Fox, and Super Tigre anyway.

Just flew my Fox .15 BB today on my Sig Wonder. Got my fingers shaking a bit. Not too sure about the Enya stuff, never had good luck with them. Haven't had my Supertiger G .15 running for many decades. It was pretty good though, cut fingers when flipping IIRC.

My Enyas are superb runners. Easier to tune and hold a tune far better than many other engines IMO. I have an SS30bb and 2 4-strokes and soon to have an SS40 bushing engine. I put Enya on a pedestal above most other engines. A mile above OS. I'm quite surprised you didn't have luck with Enya. Did you get them second hand?

These are reviews of OS Engines by "Real People" in the "Real World" that use the products. NOT "Shills" or "Apologists" .....

Not everyone has a #@*&o# for OS Engines.

O.S. will be around long after the others have gone by the way side.

No, I had one of the Enyas new. The new .09 didn't last a summer, It cost much more than the Cox stuff and didn't last as long. That was a lot of allowance money. Have a used .19 very slow and wouldn't peak, I would feel guilty about selling it at a swap meet, The .35 control line one is ok, still have it. None were performance motors IMHO, just average. Maybe they are good now. This was all back in the 1970's and I just kept away from them since.

I can't say I have the same affinity as others, but I've felt the way I do about certain things long before I joined any web forum. Certainly long before I joined the 'other' forum. I am sure you'll hold that against me anyway and that's fine. I am not going to throw labels or quoted words in that I've never used or any of that crap. I suppose I should have adhered to the actual topic better, it certainly would have prevented this.... Sorry about that.

BW - I have nothing against you or your opinion... But if you have a problem with me or my opinion, please feel free to PM me.

My all time Glow engine is a Como ABC .51 built by SuperTiger. It is old now, but runs like new. Many guys ask (after I fly) what kind of engine is that. It will out perform many newer engines !

That is one engine I've been trying to obtain for some time. The last time I saw one for sale the guy wanted an obscene amount of money for it. As in what a Jett .50 costs new. Heard a lot of good things about the ABC .51's.
