Richard, when I first got this SuperTigre .46, it had the same link to exhaust butterfly you describe. A 40 sized Swing Muffler bolts right on though. This is a baffled piston engine also. This little guy would fly a US Aircore Colt 40 quite well. Can you tell that I ran it on Fox 5% fuel with 20% castor?

I am using a new but old Fox Eagle 60 in this 60 size scale model of a Extra 500 turboprop airplane.
I need to get a few pics of it at the flying field, but I keep forgetting.





I also put a new old Fox 36 RC with a Macs muffler on a Cessna foamie plane that I am going to use as a seaplane. But before I put on the floats, I need to break in the engine for a while.

The old baffled 61 are wonderful engines as long as they have a good carb and an idle bar plug. Actually my Supertigre ran fine with with a standard plug but my K&B liked the idle bar. Many of these engines seem to be immortal and are very well suited for general sport use.

The latest addition..... A late model HB .61 Standard Drone Engine with the "Nice" HB 2 needle carburetor. Only been shot down once.

Not a mark,chipped fin, or scratch on it.

This ones going in a re-cycled Seagull Spacewalker II purchased from an Electric guy.

I was given 2 of those from the drone program. Both appeared to have been run only a tank or two, and then sat for 20 something years. Mine have bearings and no bushings. I cleaned one in the crock pot and it looks new. I haven't run either yet.

You really ought to fire one up, you'll be pleased. They're very user friendly engines.

I love the little HB .15 engines myself. They are sort of like having a finely made watch or something.

I am still quite partial to the old FOX .60 blue head engines. Here is the pic of the one I replaced the rings on a while back when I was breaking it in a little ans testing it out. People don't know the meaning of loud until you run one of these .60 engines WOT without a muffler. No one used mufflers way back when either.



I have several of the venerable Fox Eagle I engines. I was bench running these in anticipation of using them on a triple engine powered plane.


The venerable Fox 25 engines are still wonderful little engines too:


Of course the classic Fox .78 still works good in planes even today.

My Clarence Lee modified K&B .61 PDP is probably the last engine I would sell or trade I don't remember the last time I had to adjust the neeld valve on it. I have a HB that was given to me. I have rebuilt it but haven't ran it yet.

I have 2 of the HB .15, but I need the front covers for both. I am waiting for MECOA to make a production run of that part. Also an HB .25 and a .61. I have the Enya .15 also, but I am not sure of the series it is. Also an OS .15 and some others. ...I need to inventory my "collection"

I got the one I still run and a pumped version from W8YE. I traded the pumped version. The other probably has more flights than any other engine I have owned. I have worn out more than one airplane with it this El Camino is well used also.

Yes, those are the two that I found in a locker. From what I remember, there is most of a third one. I'll ask about that one when I get the right opportunity. I want to be greedy without appearing so.

Three scruffy loop scavenged classics. To be cleaned when time permits, but all in good working order:

Two Merco 49's, one twin plug "Black Streak" and the other it's single plug "plain jane" successor.

A Bluehead ST G60, missing the main needle.

Mufflers for these? Do any of the current ST range fit the G60?

if i slap a carb on the old mccoy .60 would that count?

I believe the old .60 has the same bolt spaceing as a modern ST .60 and .90 sized engines. However the 90 sized mufflers may be too large and noisey.

Those are not loop engines, but are cross flow.

Thanks for the tip on the Big ST G60 .. will check muffler size with a club mate who has a current model Italian ST G60, nice engine it is too. The modern ST mufflers are huge though.

Ithink I bolted an Aviastar 46 muffler on my V60 but Idont know if the bolt spacing is the same as a G.

I considered putting an OS .70 or .91 in my Somethin' Extra. I decided to try my old Super Tigre V60 since it was less work. I love it. Amazing power and throttle response.

The old V60 is not a common engine, I have 2 , one with a strap on and one with a bolt on muffler. Its a very small light 60. It weighs only 17.5 oz with a big Aviastar muffler which bolts right on.

Sadly at my club I'm the exception for even flying glow or for that matter building planes. I'm far less likely to receive a comment about a nice running unusual or vintage glow engine than one about what a pain it is to clean oil residue from my planes. Meanwhile the people commenting about my "Slimer" are usually waiting around with their vehicle idling in the parking lot waiting for a battery to charge.
