Saito 170r3 fix help
I recently purchased a 170r3. After receiving it I noticed one of the intake tubes was cracked almost all the way around. I have a new one on the way. What's the easiest way to replace this?

The way it looks you need to remove the bolts that hold the back plate to the crankcase, back all three intake tubes out of their respective heads, replace the bad one, and put it back together. Someone may know a simpler way.
One other hint, make sure the little O-rings are in the head and push the tube into the O-ring being gentle and careful. |
Thank you.

Like this. Another hint, if you remove the black mounts, when replacing them, set the engine on a hard flat surface while doing the final tightening. That way the mounting tabs that bolt to firewall will be perfectly even. |
Also, lube the O-rings and tubes with a bit of petroleum jelly or silicone grease before assembly.

Will do. I will let you know how it goes. Should have the parts Saturday.

I had a FA-170R3, so I know this is a bit tricky to do. I don't have the engine anymore so I can't duplicate the job for you here. The engine is now somewhere in Sweden.

I have a few other questions for you guys about this engine. Its going on a Great Planes PT-17.
What prop? What fuel? %NITRO and oil. Maintenance? What to do with it after a day of flying and at the end of the season. |
Saito FA-170R3
Here is a test of the 170 R-3, Chianelli is not the best tester, he hits the high spots. |

New intake tube is in and all looks good. The weld is broken on one of the exhaust tubes where it goes into the main ring. I'm taking it to a local shop to see if they can fix it. The main part of the ring that connects to each of the cylinders is on the front of the engine. I haven't seen this on any of the other Keleo exhaust rings.

try lifting the cylinder
. I fly with 10% oil 10% nitro. And now the 17x8 prop 16x10 works. my 170 is sitting in a Greate lake |
Props? I seem to remember those in the 15" range were a good place to start. I still have some new APCs I could mail up to you.
