Super Tiger X .11 RC engine

I was wondering if anyone has ever had any experience with the old Super Tiger X.11. I picked one up a swap meet today for my 6 year old daughters powered sailplane. It has a rear bearing and miniture version of the standard ST carb.
The engine is very nice shape, and for $10.00 I could not go wrong. I would like to change the rear bearing, but I guess I will have to measure it, as nobody lists the bearing.

I have one. A long time ago I had it in a QT. Great little engine, always seemed to run well.

I still have one. Great little motor. Difficult to hand start. Used in a scratch built sport pattern plane.

If I remember correctly, these little Super Tiger engines are items of great beauty. Are you able to post a pic for us ? [8D]

I will in about a week when I get the new bearing in it.:D

The X 11 is a little bomb. One of the greatest engines in the supertigre's range of small engines. As usual, it runs so well that's longtime they don't produce it anymore......

Bye.

Hmm... I don't remember mine having a blue head. And I thought it had a front crank bearing. I'll have to find it and see.

Hi!
First ones had non coloured cylinder heads.
X 11 had just one ballbearing (rear).
Power was not up to par with an OS FP .10 with a 7x5 APC prop( we used these .10 engines in pylonracing in the late eighties)

RE: Super Tiger X .11 RC engine

The coloured head X11 has never been sold in Italy for example. And the last production had the square cylinder and head fins, exactly as the Supertigre present production.
I had and used both, the OS 10 FP and the X11. No way, even if the OS is a neat little engine, the X 11 is far above concerning the performance. Now I have one X11 in my closet, almost brand new, bought for few euros from a friend who flies gliders only. I would like to use it sooner or later, but I never come out with a serious intention....;)

I would like to say: Supertigre, give us back the X 11...... they should still have the moulds somewhere...

Bye.

Andrea

I have:
ST 11 - nice
OS 10 FP - easy to handle, but not the strongest
OS 10 FSR - really nice
Enya 09 - light, very weak, looks like an antique
ASP 12 - strong but heavy, acutally .15 size.

And here are some of the little devils from a long past era. I flew them all in the same plane, a scratch built sport plane with a 600 square inch wing and an all up weight of 35oz. The OS Max (FSR) .10 was the most powerfull. It was able to turn a 7/4 about 21500 open exhaust. The Super Tigre .11 was close behind. Both had power even on a 7/6 comparable to a sport .15. The FUJI .099 was far behind but still a good sport engine. The weakling of the bunch was the Thunder Tiger .10. It was a close copy of the OS even copying the rearward exhaust port. The exhaust port on the OS and TT was about 130 deg from the front rather than the usual 90 or 180. On a 7/5 prop with muffler the OS would turn about 17K on 30% nitro as I recall (seems high). The TT would make about 14K. I guess they got something wrong when they copied the little OS.

Hi!
We are copmparing apples and pears here...When I said the OS FP .10 was stonger than both the old OS FSR .10 and the Super -Tigre .11 I ment using 5% nitro fuel (which we had as standard fuel in Sting pylon over here with models 80cm in span weighting 500-750g), standard silencer borred out to 5mm, and using 7x4-7x5 prop.
If this set up was used the FP .10 was the engine of choice, simple as that! As I won many race using one;).

Old thread, but nonetheless...

Would it have looked something like this in Italy during the early runs?

What about the X25, did that one come with a blue head like this?

Saluti ai compagni Italiani! David.

I need parts for one of my x-11's anybody got any ideas == I have a new in the box x-11 but I don't want to run it It is mint and with the blue head.

Mr Cox 05-10-2017 10:45 PM

Which parts are you after?
There is no real source for parts anymore that I know of. Some of the carb parts are common though for ST, and there are after market needles available for instance.

Super Tigre X-11

Love my supertigre X-11 - but due to a fire it has some water damage which went undetected until rust had formed in the cylinder and bearing. I was able to find a new crankshaft but would like a new piston and sleeve. I realize the usual sources for parts has dried up but am hoping someone has a parts engine or parts stuck away in a drawer somewhere that I could use. any help would be appreciated.

Mr Cox 05-11-2017 09:41 AM

Unused pistons and liners are probably the hardest parts to get a hold on. The rest you can get from used engines on ebay, or elsewhere. I actually lucked out and got one usable engine from two spare engines, all it took was a piston swap. So matching used piston and liners might be a way to go for you too...

The blue head ones are pretty to look at but the plain head ones are a little stronger, at least among the ones that I have.
