I would like to know how the 200Ti runs with only 5% nitro and unusually for a saito it seems to have good torque and not want to rev quite so much. Interesting.....

Anyway when the Yak is ready let me know, i would gladly assist in testing some prototypes :D

I was wondering if it was the inline too.

Edit for grammar

whats the performance of the Ti on something like an 18x8?

Also there are quite a few zeros. How about a Ki61?

Here's one (KI-61) Carosel43; It's 1/6, 72"ws, 13.7lbs, with a Saito FA-125. Flies like a champ, a little flap and it lands like a trainer.

Rev,
Thank you, thank you! for the numbers on the FA-200Ti. I needed that info so much!! Now I have a good idea of what props to buy without spending a bomb on experimental sizes.:) The 200Ti is mounted in a CMP Zero that I'm finishing up.

Still hunting a mount for my ASP400. Thanks to the video above(courtesy of Carosel43:D) I'm seriously considering a Scratchbuilt supersportster-esque type plane for it until I decide on a suitable warbird or Stearman.

RE: ASP/MAGNUM FS400AR Rebuild/Overhaul

Is that the modeltech/hobbyking Ki61? if so i did have one but sold it to a clubmate as i just had too much going on. He test flew it last weekend and i must say it looked great and flew very well.

As for the 400 there is something very satisfying about screaming through at full power. It might not sound WW2 but it sure sounds good!

I hope the weather is better next time i fly it as i can then fly a little closer and really show off the model better

RE: ASP/MAGNUM FS400AR Rebuild/Overhaul

It looks as though the HobbyKing one is the same; The manufacturer is Dongguon Flight-Model co., Ltd in China. Purchased mine a few years back from an apparently disreputable dealer here state-side. I had no problems or complaints with him.

Since no-one stepped up, I somewhat hijacked a thread and posted the modifications, complete overhaul, and bash here(only 2 pages-bash starts at #22): Lots of potential in this little ARF:)

http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_80..._1/key_/tm.htm Ok, Guilty...I TOTALLY hijacked the thread[8D]

The FA-91 referenced in the thread proved a bit dicey as it was a wee bit underpowered so I put the next larger engine I had onhand and available into it...The FA-125 proved a perfect match.

"As for the 400 there is something very satisfying about screaming through at full power. It might not sound WW2 but it sure sounds good!"(Carosel43)

I'm thoroughly enjoying all of the vid clips here....just don the headphones, crank the volume, lean back, close my eyes and enjoy......like a lullaby. My wife is now convinced I've gone completely looney[&:]

RE: ASP/MAGNUM FS400AR Rebuild/Overhaul

I have 5.1 surround hooked up to my computer for the full 'musical' experience!

As for the Ki61 the guy i sold it to is flying it on a thundertiger 91 4 stroke and it seems well enough powered for scale flight. But it is not by any means overpowered. We do need to play with props a bit as i think the 15x6 is killing the performance a little and a 14x7 might be better. Anyway the weather this weekend looks like it might be good so i will try and get another (better) video of the 400 in the pacer. Mayhaps i wont cock up the landing this time!

Also on saturday im going to look at a 92'' span Jungmeister (i hope) as a possible home for the Saito 450. If it all works i will test fly it and if i like it give it the recovering treatment! oh, and or course i will get some video :p

Rev, can i have some details of the pipe you used on the exhaust of your 300v and 450R3. i was curious about the i/d of the pipe

In other news my screws finally arrived so my 400 now has its rocker covers back! it looks like tomorrow will be cold and windy but i may have a go at flying if i feel suitably crazy

Has everyone gone on holiday or something?

Anyway, i picked up my new model today....its rather big to say the least, but what i dont know is which kit its from. So, if anyone can recall a 92'' span, foam winged glass cowled Jungmeister being sold somewhere in the world can you give me a shout!

As a matter of fact: yes :D We went to visit the inlaws over the past couple of days. Got back last night. Had a long Weekend due to "All Hallows".

@Bücker. What fuz is it? Wood or plastic? If its builtup it could be a Garry Allen. A lot of guys in my club make foam wings for everyone and everything due to the shorter build time.

Theres a couple of glass fuses for the 1/3 scale 131 on the market in Germany. Probably anyones guess. (Modellbau Benja, Modellbau barth, Rödelmodell...)

As for the Silencers / Collector Rings. A Friend of mine makes them in Germany. Compared to Keleo etc. dirt cheap. Makes custom Silencers for all 4 Stroke engines.

I have them for my Laser 300, Laser 360V, Laser 150, Laser 100, had one on the Saito. The are extremely good as silencers and give you some extra RPM.

I tested some different silencers for him on the 360 (Stock, one chamber, two chambers).
You can see the results here: http://www.rcmovie.de/video/464a9c1a...sts-Laser-360V

If you want his contact details, PM me.

Cheers Rev, i will have a look into that!

As for the Jungmeister its a built up wooden fuz with foam wings. I think it may have been from a plan pack as the formers seem to be home made. Its a nice looking model, or at least it will be when its had a makeover. For now i will just put it together and see if the 450 is man enough for the job. If not i will strip and sell, if its ok then it gets a makeover!

RE: ASP/MAGNUM FS400AR Rebuild/Overhaul

Well, its all gone quiet! and also we not been talking about the poor old 400 for a while so i am going to bring us back on topic.

Firstly, i worked out how to hand start mine from cold. You basically stand the model on its nose and pump fuel into the carb with a squirty bottle or fuel pump. Then turn the prop (with the model still nose down) until the fuel hits the cylinders. Then put it back on its wheels, flip it about a few times to get rid of any locks and then its glow on and a good throw usually has it going. I found this out today as i left my starter at work and had no other choice!

Anyway, here is some eye candy from todays flights.

Your photos are awesome! I especially like the last one, it shows off the engine, exhaust pipes, and prop tips in a spectacular fashion!

And, speaking of airplanes, my magnificent wife has bought me an early Christmas present. It is a plane large enough to mount my FS400 radial. So I finally will be able to fly this engine and hear it in the sky! :)

RE: ASP/MAGNUM FS400AR Rebuild/Overhaul

Cheers tom

And you will love the 400 when you get it flying. I must say for that model you have there the 21x8 would bea good prop as you get good thrust without too much speed. also at 6600rpm pn the ground its not revving its parts off!

Also i have been flying mine with the crank drain plugged. This does make the model cleaner but oil now leaks from all of the poorly fitting pushrod tubes and that makes a right mess. The best solution so far is fly with the drain plug in but let it drain after a flight. then plug again, fly, drain. So far its working well.

Someone showed up at my club with a fly baby, Beautiful plane and BIG but this had a one piece wing so you need a vehicle large enough to move it LOL (I'm sure your used to larger planes) Very docile in the air and flew great.

This will be my first giant scaler Dauntae! [X(]

The wings on this VQ model are two piece, get plugged in and secured with a bolt when at the flying field. The original Fly Baby had folding wings!

Here is a Fly Baby with a Rotec radial engine:

The one at my club was one of the original kits, It was built by a member who passed away before I got into RC and the other member was given the plane to him by the original owners wife as they were friends, I forget what they used for a engine but this one didn't have folding wings, might have been just how he built it but it sure was a nice plane.
