Reed Transmitter Case Wanted
I am trying to build a 2.4 Ghz Reed transmitter. I have succesfully made, with the help of a good friend, a single Channel TX on 2.4 Ghz. Now I want to do the same with a reed set. I just need the case complete with switches. It can be in any condition as long as the switches work. I would prefer a 10 channel set if possible but 12 channel would be OK too.
I don't need the internal electronics just the case and the switches.
We plan to replace the RF deck with a 2.4 Ghz deck and the encoder with a PIC driven controller.
I will also place this in the wanted ads.
Please PM me with any replys.
Thanks

RE: Reed Transmitter Case Wanted
I don't know where to get the switches. I looked up my old RCM magazines and the article describes the parts as ACE #30A10.
I would like to build a case myself but getting the switches is a problem.
Is ACe RC still in existance?
Anyone know where to get these type of non locking switches?.
Regards

You are looking for a "Bat Handle" momentary contact toggle switch, SPDT. Finding the original type of switch, (Telephone switchboard switch was what they used 50 years ago), will be almost impossible to find. But they do show up on Fleabuy on occasion.
ACE RC has been out of business for at least 15 years. The name lived on as a distributor, but I don't believe the Runge family was involved.

Tommy hallo,
Our interesses are familiar as normal, weather isn't as good anymore so we are looking for something to do, wingribs for me are on top of the list, you know why!
Your interested to built a transmitter.
I still do have a tip tip transmitter of the past, did build the switches myself, about 35 years ago.
To make the picture I did take one out the tranmitter to make them from two angles.
The mechanics are of tumbler switches. These "long levers" you normally do not find on "on/off" switches but on two position/way? select switches.
Maybe you can use the information to look for parts.
These work very well, but I never did have any other original in my hands so cannot compare.
Good luck with searching

If I remember correctly, the switches used in reed transmitters were most commonly made by Switchcraft. I just googled the company and it looks like they still exist. Maybe it would be worth looking through their website to see if that style switch is still made.

Multiplex R/C part #7 5708 (actually used in transmitters for model boats)
Model Engines (Aust) PTY, Ltd.
"AIR" Office & Distribution Centre
Noble Park, Victoria
Unit 1,158-168 Browns Road
+61 387935502
Manufacturer/brand could be SALECOM / SH (Taiwan), so available from electronics parts distributors.
Maybe JR and Futaba have such switches, too?

RE: Reed Transmitter Case Wanted
Tommy, sorry I've only just seen this thread.
Heres my own 2.4g reed emulation set [link=http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_9741452/anchors_10406864/mpage_2/anchor/tm.htm#10406864][click here][/link]
I used the up/down toggle switches intended for car electric windows. They're a bit 'clicky' but work fine and the toggles are the same physical size as the old orbits etc. The case is a die-cast aluminium project box from Maplin.
The reeds PCB has headers for the battery, switch, 2.4g module and one header per toggle switch. It can be built with up to 12 channels although this doesnt equate exactly since trims used to be separate channels (and separate servo!). It pretty much emulates the old reed sets as near as dammit, with simultaneous servo-slow on all channels to match the speed of the old bonners, a range-check mode, servo reversing throughout, trims & reversing saved to flash, etc. Its all written in pic assembler.
Theres some more detail on the projects & workshop pages here [link=http://www.singlechannel.co.uk]www.singlechannel.co.uk[/link]
Cheers
Phil

RE: Reed Transmitter Case Wanted
Tommy,
I realize this is an old post but it sounds like an interesting project. How about letting us know how it turned out? Did you get the switches, how did the 2.4 conversion turn out?

RE: Reed Transmitter Case Wanted
Not to double post, heres a link to my most recent reeds conversion in Jean Marie's single-channel thread:
[link=http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/fb.asp?m=10653372][LINK][/link]
The whole thread is worth reading for anyone interested in S/C, GG, Reeds and 2.4g conversions. An Orbit 10 is next for conversion.
Cheers
Phil
