RE: Cleveland 84
So now that all is covered, here is the mock-up of the final configuration. I will have to carefully align the stab to the wing and glue it to the fuselage, but this is how it will look......

Had to take some time off for elbow surgery, but we're back now. Here's a couple of shots of the tail all glued on

Redneck to doc: "Doc, it hurts when I do this (demonstrates by bending elbow)".
Doc to redneck: "Well don't do that!" (As seen on "Hee-Haw".)
Looks good Nic, will there be a first flight soon?

DISASTER!
So now I'm painting this, and I find that the paint is pulling up with the masking tape!!!!!I think my only choice now is to hand-brush the offending areas after al the painting is done. The wings are a rainbow of red-orange-yellow-white, thin stripes on the center section, fanning out on the tips.
Now that I know this problem, I will plan the body and tail colors to avoid this. Oh, BTW, I am using rattle can spray enamel.

Nic,
I have used super low-tack scotch tape and 'press and seal' glad wrap
in these situations. (like for spray painting Doculam) But watch for bleeding.
There is also very low tack 'artists' paper tape, but it is not sticky enough to mask
in my experience.

Glad Press'n Seal Sealable Plastic Wrap with Griptex
Staedtler 999172A0 Artist Tape

OK, I have re-designed the paint scheme to avoid putting tape onto paint. Also, fewer colors. I think this will still look nice and 30's vintage, what do you think?

I have actually made some little progress. First, here's the installation of the rudder servo. I had to keep it as low as possible in the body, yet make enough room to put the ESC underneath it.Next, a little more painting. Looks good from 6 ft away, but lousy up close.

I am so disappointed in the painting of this model. The covering I chose does not take paint well. Here is how the bottom red on the fuse looks, I will have to do a lot of clean-up to make it acceptable. In fact, it it so bad, I will not paint the tail as I was planning, just leaving it plain. Sorry this build is so long between posts, but I am disgusted and have just dropped it for awhile.

Sorry, photo won't load. Anyway, here is the wings, not looking too bad, if I can only get the final white stripe done without problem . Keep the fingers crossed.
Newver mind, that won't load either. I'll try later.

OK, I've removed the bad paint (w/qtips & thinner), then re-masked and hand-painted the edges. Looks OK from 6 ft away, I'm done painting. Just have to install a few components, and we are ready to fly!

FINISHED!!!!Final all-up weight, with battery & all, is..... (drum roll.....) 14 ounces. Yay! The outrigger 450 will make this bird a homesick angel, fer sure. That's with an 800 mAh 2-cell LiPo, enough for a full afternoon of cruising around.

BTW, that scale is the baby scale my mom used to weigh me on, lo these 62 years ago! Great for modeling. A couple of more shots, the radio install, and the rudder pull-pull and elevator pushrod.I did tie the canopy with a bit of twine to the structure, because the magnets might not survive a prop hit on restart.

RE: Cleveland 84
Wed, the pull-pull on the rudder would sure have looked neater with the cable just looped through the horns, and lighter too...The clips could have been at the servo end? just askin'...

Yeah Wed, it does make mechanical trim adjustment easier...and I bet you're running a computer radio with digital trims, sub trim, travel adjust...But it is a unique model, and redolent of its time. That Solarfilm covering is really 'oily' from my experience, and not really designed to take paint, unless you use their etch primer, so I always used minimal trim decoration with 'litespan' cut to the trim pattern and applied with clear dope. Never had much luck with the heat shrink tissue substitutes and I only use 'litespan' now for fabric covered bits on scale models. Love to see an assembled piccie, and one on the glide...

Yes, the painting was a bear. Assembled pic & in-flight will be coming soon, I promise! Probably a 40% chance it will be tomorrow evening, depending on wind conditions. Here in the NorthEast USA we have had unsettled weather for a week now, with afternoon thunderstorms and breezy conditions. I want a calm day for first flight.
