RE: Cleveland 84
Anyway, the use of a wheel causes all sorts of troubles. First, the engineering is not really substantial enough, and it protrudes into the r/c compartment, where I think I will need all the space I can get. Instead, I decided to install a skid of 1/16 plywood where the wheel would go. Then I doubled it up with some 1/16 x 3/16 spruce doublers.

RE: Cleveland 84
before doing the other side, I have to bury the elevator servo into the aft section. a cross-piece of 1/16 sheet will hold the servo with mounting tape. I don't figure I will ever have to do maintenance on the servo, but if I really have to, I could just about get to it from the cavity under the wing section.

OK , so I took a month off. I better get going, or summer will come and go before I'm done!
Actually, about a week ago the weather was actually nice for a few days. I took the wings outside to do some heavy duty sanding of TE, etc. and I guess I was a little too ambitious! See the photo, now I have some repair to do.

Nice, clean building of one of Edward T. Packard's kits aka Cleveland Models. I am a Big Fan of anything from this company. Not too many people are willing to put the time into a project like this anymore, but alas, this is how it was done in the day. I have several of their kits, the biggest I built was a Hudson, of course all my builds @ that time were for rubber and or C02. Just got a DH4 off of eBay, Master Kit, missing the plans, but that is easily set in order w/a order to get them from Cleveland Models Plans Service. Rest of kit is complete.
Now, as for your's, one of the classics and really like the changes you have incorporated into the design. Sorry to see the miss hap, happens to us all, but from what I have seen so far, you will fix. Looking forward to more of this build.

For those who are following, my apologies for laying off the build for a while. The wings are fixed, but I have been doing a restoration of an 80-year old ship model. Complete rigging needed to be done. Some photos attached. FYI - the last photo is how I received the model.

OK, WE'REBAAAACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The ship model was delivered to my client yesterday, so I can go back to this project.
First order of business is to cut off the top of the fuselage, so the wing can sit in it's saddle. These pix show the top cut, cut-out pieces, and the wing in place

Next, it will be necessary to bury the elevator servo in the fuselage before we can finish the body stringers. That, of course, means making and installing both the servo and the pushrod. Here's the servo end of the carbon fiber / .047 wire pushrod

And here is the servo and pushrod installed, then the fuselage all buttoned up. I sure hope I never have to service this servo!
PS - edit - CA makes doing the stringers a piece of cake!

You know you're getting old when that "new" tin of Balsarite you just opened is all gummy, and you realize that New meant you bought it about 8 or 9 years ago......
*sigh*
Guess I'll have to buy another one if I want to cover this pretty baby.

Anyway, back to the subject. I finally got the courage to go ahead and DO the wing mount I've been fretting over. Here's a shot of the body, with mounting blocks added and tapped for 6-32 screws. Then a couple of shots of the wing. Remember the thin ply center rib with the mounting tangs? I had to add some block to get the screw head into a convenient position, not buried deep in the body.

And, with the wing firmly mounted, what modeller can resist the temptation to tape all the parts together? Not me........
Of course, the baby scale is never far away. As you see it in this picture, elevator servo included, it weighs a mere 4 ounces! Maybe 5 on the outside, it's an old scale.

RE: Cleveland 84
OK, this past week we made some major decisions. First, we will use an 11x6 folding prop on the 450 motor, it will have some torque! So, on the advice of my local Hobby shop dealer (I've known him since the 1970's) I have sheeted the nose of the glider from the cockpit to the rear of the landing skid (photo is almost done)

Also, the top of the wing needs a fairing to match the fuselage form, coming up and over to mate with the soon-to-be-done-canopy. Once mounted, you can see the flow of the lines.

RE: Cleveland 84
Well, after the last post I finished the nose sheeting and started to do the covering. I was thinking about an update, then Irene came along and we were without power for a full week. Now that things are settling down, I'll post some update pix real soon. I have to finish this for the Oxford PA meet in October

Next, the body all sheeted. Now I'm waiting to get the 11x6 folding prop so I can cut off the front, install the motor on standoffs, then it will be ready to cover.
