Ok guys, its official. May 21-22 2011 at the Old Julian Airport Field in Julian, NC. Look for more updates as the event plans unfold. Mark your calendar as it most likely is the only event of its type being offered. Hopefully this will be a good starting point for more to come!!!

I have a green head .29, but no red head K&Bs. Are you talking about McCoy redheads? I have a.099 McCoy Diesel redhead, and a McCoy .60 red head on my SUPER Champion .60. And a red head ASP .108.

OK, I am also interested in this event. I am not a knowledgeable vintage RC model flyer and need someone who is to tell me which of my planes qualify and which don't. I built and flew controline and free flight (no RC) in the late 50' & early 60's, then took 40 years off from model airplanes, returning in 2001 to learn to fly RC. So I have a 40 yr. gap in knowledge of what was designed, flown and built when. My first canidate is a DeBolt Live Wire Champ that I built 2 1/2 yrs ago from an old midwest kit. I modified it a little bit adding ailerons and wing struts. It uses a modern 72mgh Futaba radio system and a modern OS 25 la engine. If this one is a "no go" then I am dead in the water! Next is a Great Planes Super Sporster 40 that I kit built about three years ago. Next is a Topflight Elder 40 kit that I completed a couple of months ago. I also have a Sig Kadet Sr. however it is an modern ARF version not an original built from a kit. Lastly, I also have a Birdi Utter Kaos kit that is still unbuilt and I doubt I could have it completed in time (I'am a slow builder). Which planes qualify and which don't ??? Also, where in North Carolina is Julian?

Well Larry, the first DeBolt Champ was kitted in 1955 so that is vintage design. Your Midwest kit was most likely the MKIII version. I beleive the Kadet was early 70's as well as the Don Anderson Super Sportser. Now seeing how you built the Elder 40 from a kit its got to be vintage cause who sells and builds kits anymore!!

Finally you constructed free flight and controline in the 50s and 60s makes you an old fart like the rest of us so you're legal!![sm=spinnyeyes.gif]

So if anyone disagrees let them take it up with the CDs Jim, Mike and Me!![sm=punching.gif]

So pack up the car and come on up!! Julian, NC is just off 421N between Siler City and Greensboro. Go to the new website www.oldjulianairport.org for directions and hotel info.

Really, this meet is no stress just come out and fly, enjoy some great company, relive some of the past and relax. Hope to see you there!!

Bob, Thanks for the quick reply. I've got the event marked on my calendar and am looking forward to attending. Yes, the copyright date on my Live Wire Champ plans is 1955. I grew up in suburban Buffalo N.Y. only a couple of miles from from Harold DeBolts shop and bought and built one of his control line models (All American Jr) back in the day. Yah I'am that old!!! I'll be comming in a covered pick up so hauling that many planes is no problum. My map dosen't show Julian but I found 421 running between Siler City and Greensboro. I'll get a better map. Thanks again, see you there.

Gene, all the models that are legal for the VRCS are also legal for the "Glory Days" event. We are just adding Controline and Free Flight to the menu. The event is kind of scaled after the old AMA Nationals (except with no competition) that were held at different locations of the country each year before there was Muncie. These Nationals had more local participation. Unfortunately today with Muncie being the only location for the Nats there are many superior models and modelers that can't make the long trip. So I feel that the Nats is not show casing the best of the class, just the best who can make the trip!!

PS Go ahead and bring the tour bus... we got room!!

Sounds like fun to me. Its a shame that I have other things that are pulling at my time during late April through May. I'd love to be able to attend. Any fly-in with no ARFs sounds good.

There could be ARFs at this one... The date range can inclued some very early foamies as well as the wonderfull Lanier ARFs... I think Pilot was making some by 1975 too. Certainly by 1976.

Bob! Just found this thread - fascinating!!!

Yeah, I've got it marked. Planning to bring my 1974-built Sr. Falcon, the Champ, my C/L Goldberg Skylark and C/L SIG Banshee. The Champ, as you know, is recently built but should qualify anyway. The other 3 were all already flying in the 1970's.
