Default My New Esquire

Here are some pics of my brand new Esquire. I started building it for our 2010 VR/CS event, but did not quite finish in time. After letting it sit for nearly a year, I managed to find a little time to finish it up. Built from Model Builder plans, wing and stab covered with Ultracote Lite, fuselage painted with Sig dope. Controls are rudder, elevator, and throttle. Final weight is 44 ounces. Power is an O.S. .20FS, which is a real gem. Flew it for the first time at our 2011 event last weekend. Won the time-and-glide by launching into a group of buzzards circling in a thermal - I've got a real eagle eye for lift

Some of my earliest model flying as a kid was with a rudder-only Esquire built by my dad, so this was a nice nostalgia trip for me!

HI Bruce,

I am also a member or the VRCS (bit of a change from the jets), I have also flown a similar model called the "Invader", and australian kit from the late sixties. It was the first RC
model I ever flew. There is a video on You Tube of my first flight.

My replica is electric powered and has only rudder and motor.

Have a look on the VRCS web site for an article by Jean-Marie Piednoir describing a 2.4 Ghz single channel transmitter.

Regards

Hey Tommy, always good to hear from you. The Invader looks nice, similar concept to the Esquire (basically free-flight with rudder control). I'm not quite nostalgic enough to just want rudder, I like having elevator and throttle to do putt-putt passes and bounce-and-goes.

Enjoyed the vid. Somebody did some very fancy editing, er, cutting and splicing.
