Yes things certainly have changed, mostly for the better. The wires really are just for show and if you look at my plane in the first post I am using silver elastic thread. A little cheesy I know but it makes for a quick setup and if they get hit they just stretch. The wheel pants are probably the most probamatic item because if you have a less than perfect landing they can get beat up, but all the other fairings really add to the look and shouldn't be a problem installing them. VJ's thread is an excellent thread and he will answer any question you could have about this kit. My Ryan is a greatplanes arf I bought at the swap sale.

Was that from the quality of your building or a case of better lucky than smart?

Well in the end probably lucky, but I will say with total honesty that I did anticipate that it would be tail heavy on the start of this build, so I tried to place as much weight forward thatI could while building. Some examplesinclude the placement ofthe throttle and choke servos, battery placementandselecting heavier wood for the front and lighter wood for the rear of the build when possible.

I need some input here. I acquired a GP YPT-16 and he was set up for use with an OS 91 FS. I am thinking of a 1.20 but I could use some ideas on power plant here. Also, are there any negative flight characteristics with him? I will be staying with glow. Thank you for any input here.

Hi Tom. If you go to VJ'S Post and look at post #1322 you will see my recently completed Ryan. I built it as a STM. you will see that I havebuilt the airplane using the supplied flying wires. They are not a hassle at the flying field as the only connections are the four wires that connect to the fuselage from the top of the wing and these are connected with nylon clevis's,(simple). All the other flying wires stay permanently connected to the wing.Best of luck with your build. Cavoodle. Ryan STA Brotherhood #24

Ryan Brothers,
I recently picked up my long-awaited NIB Byron Ryan (sans box). I've been needling stickbuilder for a set of plans to do the wood wings, and he is currently moving, but has promised to help me out when he can.

I'm in need of the plans and instructions that came with the kit, though. This one has no instructions. I'm sure I could fumble through the majority of this without any, but if anyone has a spare set, or would be willing to copy a set of whatever you may have, I would be glad to compensate you for your troubles.

Can anyone help a brother out here?

Regards,
RBardin

I don't understand why you don't just buy the ones from FGS. They are better quality and not that expensive. The plane has been discontinued for a long time now.

Hey guys I am attempting to identify individual instruments for the IP on my Ryan project. Does anyone here have anything they can share that may help? I have some low res photos but i can see details. Ryan like every other aviation company used the same instruments across their platforms so anything could help. IM me if you need an email address. Thanks in advance guys!

Hi, you probably aren't aware then that there is an STM out at Wiley Post Airport in the OKLAHOMA Museum of Flying. They'll let you take all the pictures you want.
