My question is RCM initially published their first issue, I believe around October 1963, of which I have yet to see a copy available anywhere. I have most all of the 1964 issues except for the one with the Cessna 182 on the cover (March/April). In the 1964 year, several issues went bi-monthly. However, I can't account for an October issue. I have all of the 1965 issues so I assume that RCM got their publishing dates corrected for monthly release. Am I correct in that there were several months missed in the initial publication for 1963 and 1964? I'd like to fill in the missing issues in my collection if they exist.

Michael, the first issue was October 1963. There was a March-April 1964 and a June-July in 1964. Dan.

Thanks for that history, guys...

I'd love to see a copy of Volume 1, Issue 1. Somehow I got my hands on a scan of the Cover and the Editorial/Table of Contents page but that's all. Here they are for those of you who haven't seen them before.

RCM's initial issue had 48 pages and a circulation of only 7,000 copies. By the 12th issue, it had grown to 64 pages and a circulation of 63,000 copies. How many were on a news stand is unknown, certainly almost all of the first issue would have been placed there. But unsold copies on news stands get destroyed with just a chunk of cover sent back to the distributer. So the first issue might be pretty rare by now. By the third issue, subscription postcards were being included.

I have none of the 1963 issues. For 1964 I'm missing March/April and October. For 1965 I'm missing October. Maybe these will pop up one of these days.

Follow up: I have the December 1963 issue and a lead for electronic copies of the October and November issues. I now have all available for 1964. Saw below that the October 1965 issue doesn't exist!

Mike, the last time I saw the first issue at Toledo, the asking price was $75.
I have all of the RCM 1960's issues here someplace, but I have hid them from myself.

I looked through a few boxes of RCM's and I have a couple of the issues you are looking for to spare. But I am looking for the OCT 65 issue too.

The October, 1965 issue of RCM was never published. See page 5 of the November, 1965 issue for Don Dewey's explanation. I, too, looked several years for the October, 1965 issue.
