Now I remember about the aluminum 90's. Yep I am with ya on this on Steve and will be interested in seeing it
I am hoping to try to get some CL flying in next week, Just a 2 or 3 flights. Charging batteries right now. I am having to punt on the TX battery It puffed since when do LIFE batteries puff?
Yeah I said TX and CL. I use 2.4 for throttle. If I get the dizzies I can land. Ringmaster Flython next weekend. I want to test my body a bit.

Thank you Tom. Means a lot coming from you. For some reason, for a simple wing it was a lot of work. Hopefully the other side will be a bit easier now that I've done it once.

I have both of mine at similar points, but not nearly as far along as yours. I need to mount them to the center section, so that I can install the wig tube sockets. After that, I can sheet the bottom of the wing panels.
Your second panel should frame up quickly.

Oh. I thought your wings were done sheeted. I need to check and see when I ordered my tube and socket. Hopefully they come some time this coming week. Right now I'm working on getting the speedster back in the air.

My wings are a monoque design. Without sheeting, the are pretty flimsy. The spars are 1/8X1/4" balsa. Without some sheeting, I couldn't remove the wings from the building board. LOL

Not sure if I told you about my last flight with the Rearwin. Was getting toward the end of the flight. I pulled the stick back to settle into a nice approach, and the engine wouldn't throttle down. I had throttle control from about half to full, but nothing below half. I did a few patterns at half throttle trying to get it to come down, but at half throttle, she wants to climb. No luck. So I went around for a real wide approach, and made sure I was set up as good as possible, and killed the ignition. Brought it in for a perfect three point dead stick. When I looked, I saw the broken mount on the opposite side of the throttle so when I pulled the stick back, it actually would pull the whole engine. Whew, close call.

This thing is a hog, so not much different than any other flight. But I used to cram the biggest tank I could until I had to fly around for 40 minutes one time. Learned two lessons on that one. Not such a big tank, and make sure to have a kill switch or throttle cut of some type. Although, you loose the throttle servo and the throttle cut switch is useless.

Off topic I was speaking with the owner of my local hobby shop and he got some spar glow plugs in for that new 15cc OS engine that runs on gasoline but runs on a glow plug without an ignition setup. He took one of them and stuck it in on old Weber .61 and she ran great even the idle perfect. The only difference he noticed was a little lower RPM at full throttle, he loss about 200 RPM. He plans on trying it with a 4 cycle engine tomorrow. I may just try converting a few engines myself. He used a 40-1 ratio on the fuel but his feeling is he would want to increase to 20-1 for engines without bearings.

Norvel has a .40 that runs gas/oil (14% castor). Uses a p5 plug and ceramic cyl,and very high compression. It is lighter than most .40s and even though gas not glow is as strong or stronger.

Yes, and the only modification for an existing glow engine is to use this new glow plug and replace the tank plug & fuel lines to gasoline compatible. As I understand it OS has come up with an alloy for the coil that remains glowing in the presence of gasoline like Platinum does in the presence of alcohol fuel.

I saw this last night. I'm thinking I've got my hands full with the Mulligan I already have. Although, I do want to build an IKON kit. Hopefully getting back to work on the other wing panel today. Hope my wing tube shows up soon as well. How's the Vega coming?
#345
The Vega is on a temporary hold.
I'd like to get my 20+ year old IKON Stinson running/flying this year. I got it's Saito twin to fire, but it wouldn't stay running. I also seem to be having binding problems with my radio.
I should get a handle on it this week, then get back to the Vega,

Yeah, I also took a break to get the speedster back in the air. She's just about done, and then I wound up assembling another flippy floppy arf. I know, I never learn. Flip flippers are for guys who can actually fly them. Work should commence on Mr. M again today as I'm finishing up the arf as we speak.
