I got the wing tube ordered today, so it should be here sometime early next week allowing me to start on the wings. The gear will take them a bit to make so it will take a while more. That's ok, the gear isn't holding me up like the tube is. Till then I think I have enough busy work to last me. Plus, it's a big flying weekend for me. Saturday is my clubs Big Biplane Bash. I'll have two planes to fly in it this year and both need a little maintenance work before. And Sunday I'm going float flying at my buddies private lake. I'm psyched for that. Always a good time. Anyone else doing anything good this weekend?

Oh my goodness! I'm glad you said something Steve, our clubs Jet Rally is this weekend starting today. But I already promised to take a buddy of mine (coworker actually) out flying with my buddy box. Rats! I hate when that happens!

Oh yeah! And how could I forget? My house finally sold! That's the good news. Bad news is we still haven't found a suitable replacement. I have exactly 43 days to find one, buy it, and move all this crap in to it. Blah. That should be fun. Let's see how many of those guys I helped move actually come and help me.

I just found out he has to work half a day. That leaves me free to go... if I want to...
Hey, congrats on selling the house! Ah, that's too bad you don't have another one lined up yet. AND... Good luck on getting the help!

That is great news Steve. Glad you get it sold. Are you packing yet?
Are you planning to down, up, same sizing?
We are going to start packing again. It just does not seem as stable here as we first thought. No ideal when where. At this point we are both open to going wherever (but not Ca,or some state like that).
I am going to build some and pack some.

Thanks Ken. Were happy where we are right now with only one exception. The school system. Or lack of. My kids are still very young. 6 and 7. The younger of the two has autism and the town I live in offers absolutely nothing for kids with special needs. It's really sad. So, that's it in a nutshell. Were not really limiting ourselves as to where we go, but keeping in mind that the only family we have is here. I've spent tens of thousands of dollars fighting to get my kid the services that he needs, the services that my tax dollars pay for, but the best they could do is just a joke. He needs better. Period. As for the packing, jeez, I don't even know where to start. Lol.

Congrats on the sale of your house, but the reasons for it are unfortunate.
I hope that you find a nice home in a suitable school district, that can, and will, provide the needed services.
By the way, it took 2 weeks for my wing tube to arrive from TnT, if that's who you ordered from. I was just going to call them about it, when it arrived, earlier this week.

The Vega's wing has a huge depth, maybe 3", at the root.
I hope to drill the ribs to accept the tubes this weekend. Watch my thread. I should have some pics to illustrate.

Steve, I know you are leaving for your son (school services). I commend you and your wife for that. I went thru similar with my oldest son. R.A.D.
Hopefully you guys will not have to disrupt your lives to greatly.
Uh you need me to come move you planes , and associated toys for you? I promise they will arrive undamaged, honest. (can't say where)

So first of all, my wife and I looked at a house yesterday, and I think were going to take it. Long as the inspection goes the way I think it will. Well be gaining two bedrooms, a half bath and a two car garage over what we have now but our mortgage payment will only be about two hundred more. I really hope it works out. Now, for the mulligan. I need some good builders advice. I'm working on the tail end and realize that the only thing holding the H stab in is a piece of 1/8 balsa on each side, and the only thing holding the V stab is a piece if 1/8 balsa. I don't feel very comfortable with it, and I know I have a tendency to over build, but being the tail, I don't want to add unnessasary weight. Hopefully you can see what I'm talking about from the pics and shoot me some ideas. The way it is now is all the plans call for.

The horizontal stab will be fine, the shear strength in that manner is quite high. The vertical stab/fin is another story, does it not get anything in the corners/transition somewhere down the road. But then again if the trailing edge of the fin extends down the fuse tail and the leading edge protrudes the fuse skin then there is adequate strength. I have learned in my years that usually the mfg has is right and we/I tend to over build. I have in the last couple years tried to rectify that even in my scratch builds. More does not always mean better, just heavier.

I agree that looks rather marginal Steve. It does need some extra beef there. Controlled flight sort of depends on the V and H stab. Perhaps some light ply a modest amount.
I lost my vertical once (an all flying rudder). Let me tell you things got very interesting real fast. Slope glider. I finally managed to put it into a bush safely and yes on purpose. It flew like a squire on crank.
Ken
And the house sounds great. How far a move is that?

The vertical post that is the trailing edge of the V stab does make it's way down, but only maybe 1 1/2 inches and the front post of that fin only ties into the 1/8 balsa sheet. There's nothing down the road tying it together. What you see is it. I think what I'll do is to add a 1/4 sq. along the top and bottom of the horizontal inside the fuse to strengthen the 1/8 sheet and give more surface to glue to. As for the vertical stab, I'm not too sure yet. Either way, I think I'll hold off on the side stringers till the end so I can still have access to that area. Besides, they'll just end up getting broken if I put them on now. Your probably right though. It probably is plenty strong enough on its own. I'm also trying to get away from over building, but it's so hard. Lol.

You could, on the vertical, move the bottom stringer so it is in contact with the sheeting. And you could pin it to the sheeting with some hardwood dowels, toothpicks are a favorite of mine. Of course you could put a small strip of hardwood under the vertical and horizontal and pin them both, this would be a minimal weight gain. These are some of those areas I like a strip of 1/8"x1/2" Aspen, hardwood but light.
