Thanks. NC14620 is a 1935 YKC-S (WACO Standard Cabin with Jacobs R225) owned by Andy Heins of Dayton Ohio and is the last flying YKC-S. A few years back, Andy was kind enough to take me for a spectacular flight (wing overs and formation flying with his sister in a 1931 WACO RNF and brother-in-law (?) in a third WACO). The model is just under 1/4-scale and sized to house a Seidel 7-70 radial. At 32 lbs flying weight it flies very much scale-like with the Seidel. Model was scratched from modified Charlie Nelson plans ('92 Top Gun winner with a WACO cabin). Charlie was my mentor who got me into scale competition and was willing to share his hand-drawn plans with me and impart a boat-load of wisdom along with a love of scale models (WACO cabins in particular).

Yeah, the old girl's really nothing special - just a 1961 Scale Lines kit that I found rotting in a garage sale and restored to flight. She's certainly nowhere even in the same galaxy as the rest of these incredible planes around here, but she flies pretty well.

Welcome one and all! Sorry for taking so long to respond I had a house full over the weekend from 3 states including 4 kids, their spouses, and a total of 5 grandsons it was fun but wore me out! I see we have some fantastic photos both scale sizes and the objects of our infliction to boot! Remember the secret alternate purpose of this group is to make my builds look bad so I'll be quilted into doing a better job!
To address Grotto2's questions, yes the thread is devoted to full scale aircraft and scale models of said aircraft. If you will observe there are a number of builds in the "Golden Age, Vintage & Antique RC" forum so this brotherhood landed here. It makes us easy to find and I believe follows the spirit of the discussion forum. No ill will received none taken, it was a valid question so no need to apologize! You didn't ask but I assume you would like to join so I gave you a number but you may decline if you desire. In the future Tom if I'm out of pocket feel free to go ahead and add anyone wishing to join. That goes for the rest of you guys who know me from this and other forums, I'm not fast but known to be cheap (OK tight as bark on a tree) and easy. ;-)

As a side note, I have a build thread on RC Scale Builder LINKY Its N613K Travel Air of Poncho Parnes fame, but I'm doing a scratch build of the original Chevrolair inline before they swapped it for a Radial.
Before pic and as I am modeling it with the 6 cyl Chevrolair.
Pic after the engine was swapped with the Wright Radial. I love the Travel Air planes!!

Sign me up. I am about half finished with a Curtiss Goshawk BFC mod from WE Tech plans for the F11C. Plans needed a lot of help...for one thing, they showed ailerons on the bottom wing only! Will send pix when I figger out how to do it with a Mac and Brothers copier.

I'll join the club.The 1930's racers are my favorites,I've built Walt Moucha's Miss Los Angeles,Tarvin's 1/3 scale clipped wing Monocoupe,and pacific models Gee Bee Y.Wendell Hostetler's Jeep is being built this winter.

Dowmer, you are a man after my own heart I have Pancho's Mystery Ship on my short list with the original inline engine design.
The Goshawk F11C build thread on RCSB is that a guy who was vacuum forming his own corrugated skins? If it is I saw his pictures of the rudder and vertical stab.

Here's a Golden Age air frame with more "modern" looks. The Luscombe Silvair was released in the late 30s.
My limited research says that the early versions had rag wings, while later versions were sheeted aluminum.
Hostetler has a plans set for the Luscombe. A friend gave me these plans and the cowl and wheel pants. I purchased a kit from National Balsa. As you may have surmised, this will be my next build project.
