Nope, no idea Mike...I had the ribs done at one place and the rest done at work so could be due to different people and different systems and programs but I really don't know.
I'm going just now to have the plans printed to match my ribs so I'll scan them and mail you the CORRECT set...which will now be FULL SIZE and NOT 90%

Yip, plenty fun Mike

Got more done the weekend, may not look like much but took quite some doing. First off I glued all the leading edge templates onto .6mm ply and then cut them out. I also cut out the rest of the root templates and trimmed them to allow for the 1.5mm centre sheeting. Then one by one I cut, glued and sanded the leading edge pieces onto the ribs and then cut and notched all the root ribs.
The ribs don't all line up with the redrawn plans but they still maintain the elliptical Valkyrie shape. There is actually a clear difference between the CAD/PDF drawings and the redrawn plans in that the redrawn plans leading edge sweeps back more than the CAD drawings and the trailing edge is a touch "flatter" on the CAD drawings.
I also made up the left rear joiner box from 3mm ply and so far have fitted it to rib 4. The joiner boxes will be wrapped with carbon tow after they have been glued into the four root ribs and the wing locator/ lockdown plates have been glued in...the wing will be held down the same way as Frannie's Valkyrie with two carbon rods through the locator/lockdown plates

The elliptical shape at least remains intact.

Well, assembly of left wing has begun. I started out fitting the two joiner boxes in the centre ribs. It took a bit of trimming here and there to get it all lined up without any twist in the centre panel but all worked out nicely. You'll notice how the trailing edges of the rib progressively lift off the board from rib 2, that's where the trimming came in, to get it all flat on the board.
Now normally I would lay down the trailing edge first before laying down ribs but because the CAD drawings and redrawn plan differ and the trailing edges are not the same, I'm laying down the ribs and spars first, starting with the bottom spars and then the top. Once all laid down and lined up I'll glue in place and then make a template of the actual trailing edge, cut it and lay that down and glue it but for now it's the slow pain staking process of laying down all the ribs and spars as there is still slight adjustments needed along the way for it all to line up.

Things have moved along a bit since I last posted. The joiner boxes will be wrapped with carbon tow before the sheeting gets added. I will use the same method of wing hold down as what Frannie used on her bird and that's why I haven't wrapped the boxes yet as the wrapping will add more strength to the wing mounting system as the hold down plates will get wrapped at the same time essentially becoming one with the joiner boxes.

Update, there's been a fair bit going on over the last while. I made templates for cutting trailing edge and tips, I cut them for the left wing and glued them on, I glued all the spars in place and I did a bunch of inter rib braces...may not sound like much but...
The two middle pics are close-up of the inter rib bracing from the bottom and the top...looks like my workshops rafters

Getting all the angles correct on the inter rib bracing must be a nightmare but oh so beautiful!

Aloha,
I have wanted to build this model for years...but never found the plans for the larger version or a kit. Is one available any where on the planet? Please do let me know...

Bobby, here is a link for a free download of the original 118" Goldberg Valkyrie.

Her is a link to the 1938 Air Trails article on the Valkyrie. You can download it as a pair of pdf files.

Bob, if you send me your email address I will send you some other files I found as well. They are CAD drawings converted to PDF specifically for the ribs but the other stuff is also there. I have discovered though that there are NO 100% ACCURATE drawings for the Valkyrie as there have been a lot of small changes to the drawings over the years...she is not even built the same way the CG built her, I think the article may explain it as somewhere there are building instructions for her.

Anyway, there is an update on her progress...it's been 7 months since she was started and I almost have a complete left wing All the inter rib bracing has been completed besides the ones next to the joiner boxes, they will be done after the boxes have been wrapped with carbon and that can't be done until I have done the basic fuselage and pylon structure. I will be adding to ply tabs to the boxes the same as Franny did on her Valkyrie, these are for the wing hold down instead of rubber bands. Once they are done then I will wrap the boxes with carbon and do the center sheeting.

Then there was more done yesterday. Made up a couple templates for the tip sheeting, joined and cut the sheeting and glued it all in place, then sanded the tip. The leading edge has been sanded to the point of where the center sheeting would end. This is as far as I can go with the left wing for now, I must now build the right wing to the same stage, make the two solid carbon joiners and then move over to the fuselage and pylon.

I still think that is the most beautiful wing design I have ever seen regardless of how big a nightmare it is to build!

That's the point Mike, it's NOT a nightmare to build, it's actually great fun...I know, the Dr dropped me on my head when I was born

I kind of agree with you, I am building the VK Models DR1 because I missed stick building. The Valkyrie will be next walk down memory lane when I can get to it.

Look forward to seeing it progress Mike

On Sunday morning I assembled the center of the right wing, slid all the bottom spars into place and set it all up over the plan and then made a big good old Harvey Wall Banger ready to settle in to a solid day's building. By the end of the day all the ribs were in and glued to the bottom spars and all the top spars were slid into place. Try looking through two Valkyrie wings one on top of the other...it boggles the mind

Not as much as I'd hoped for Mike, it just looks like a lot because of all the "sticks"

I did however get done what I'd hoped to accomplish last night and that was to glue all the top spar joints...for a week night that's a fair bit of work...took around three hours
This is one HUGE old timer, wonder how CG transported his with a one piece wing

That is one dang big wing! Now that you mention it I wonder how Carl did get it to the field? How many sticks did you have to scarf together to make each spar?

Didn't have to splice any spars Mike. A mate of mine in Cape Town cut the spars for me...3mm sq x 1.5 - 2m long

True, but if you bought strips from your usual hobby supplier you would g=have to pay for them and still do scarf joints. Nothing is ever cheap about this hobby.
