Default EC-52 vintage style motor glider

The EC-52 was designed and built from June 2006 to April 2008 by my uncle Jose Maria "Pepe" Cardin as a tribute to the free flight AMA Grand Class A and Open FAI motor gliders from 1947 to 1955.

Design was made with AutoCad program and then a CNC mill machine was purchased to cut all parts from the drawings and proceed with the building at his home in Madrid (Spain).

Model specs are as follows:

Wingspan: 3.015 mm (119 in)
Wing surface: 87 dm2 (1.349 square inches)
Wing loading: 35 grs/dm2 (19 oz/square in)
Wing Profil: Wortmann 60-126
Horizontal stabilizer profil: NACA 0009
Motor: AXI 2826/8
Propeller: AERONAUT 13 x 6"
ESC: 60A
Battery: Li-Po 3S 11,1V 3.200mAh 30S
Radio: FUTABA T7C 2.4GHz FASST with R607FS receiver
Servos: FUTABA S3003 for elevator, S3003 for rudder and 2 x S3102 for ailerons

Unfortunately during a vintage model meeting in 2015 the nose collapsed diving to the ground due to a brisk maneuver, leaving the plane stalled and falling in a dethermalized state, breaking the main landing gear area. The model was stored damaged till last May when I personally took the work of repairing and reinforcing the broken area.

Finally, yesterday with an appropriate weather forecast the model got to the air again for a successful remaiden, making two 10 minutes flights using just 40% of the battery capacity.

Hope many flights to follow now with greatest security and confidence.

Best Regards from Spain.

Jesus Cardin

Default Where can I get plans for the EC-52?

Hi JC;
Beautiful old timey looking ship, I would luv to build one, but need plans.
I did a one time quick search on the net, lots of large old-timey looking gliders but no EC-52 at all; so I will appeal to you. Where can I get a set of plans?, Can I download off da net, or, what is the cost for a set of plans.
Will close for now, best regards from Wickenburg, Arizona, USA.

Thanks for your recognition and liking the model, Joe!

As explained the EC-52 is an own design from my uncle Jose Maria Cardin and it never was intended for offering or selling the plans. Anyway as he completely designed the model and draw parts plans and assembly sletches from AutoCad software for bot cutting the parts and the mount the airframe, I will ask him if he conserves the archives and a way to send you them in an easy to use format.

Let me some days to comfirm you availablity.

Best Regards,

Hi Joe Nagy,

I sent you a private message but it seems it went bad!.

I talked to my uncle and he confirmed he keeps AutoCad plans for the model. He explained they are the original plans for a short nose version; he later had to enlarge it due to keeping balanced the model without going to excessive nose ballast.

If you are interested, please, let me know your mail address and I will send you the AutoCad files.

Best Regards.

Dear Joe,

After some holidays with the family, I am back and found a mail with the AutoCad files for the EC-52. When I get back at home this evening I will send to you.

Also with the drawings, my uncle Pepe Cardin included some building and maiden photos. I just leave three now for reference.

Best Regards

Jesus Cardin

Default EC-52 cont'd

Hi Jesus;

Good to hear from you again.

Summer Holidays with Family are always fun, [sometimes hectic with small children, but....]; where did you go/or, where do people in Spain go for Summer Holidays. We went away also for a few days, close by to California: Los Angels/Disneyland, & then down to San Diego, and then back home to Wickenburg, Arizona.

Great news on the EC-52, I can hardly wait to receive your Plans Files & plan on including it as an immediate build, & thank your Uncle Pepe for his fine design and work, and for helping me to build one too. I will keep you informed, [& maybe the rest of the RCU Family herein with my build progress].It certainly is a beautiful design and just different enuff to stand out, wherever it is flown. I can hardly wait to get started building my own EC-52..

Well Jesus, I will close for now, and thank you and your Uncle Pepe for your efforts re the EC-52, and look forward to receiving your plans/dowloads, best regards again from a very, very warm Wickenburg, Arizona, USA,

Joe Nagy. eMail: joshrl@hotmail.com
