I have a 70's vintage Sweet stick with an Enya 45 that had a Heathkit radio that I am going to put back in service. I have no idea other than 35% MAC where the CG should be located. Does anybody know? When I built it the plans had dihedral which I removed and I added 1/16 balsa between the spars and every rib. Man, you can use that wing for a gang plank. This was a great kit, easy to build, great flyer and cheap too. I remember paying about $35 for it and the engine was $50 which was high as you could get a K & B .40 for about $35.

Any help with the CG location would be appreciated.

4" behind the leading edge of the wing, or 1/4" behind the backside of the main spar is what is shown on my set of plans. I flew mine with a Fox .45 and a 70 series Kraft SS with KPS-12 servos. I remember it as flying well, but need to build another to see what it is like 33 years later.

There are two Midwest Sticks -(40) and it depends on which one you have..The earlier stick used bellcranks to operate the Ailerons--plus construction was a little different.see photos

Thanks for the info. My Stick is of the Bell Crank era as the servo is mounted laying on its side in a side mount servo tray and a control rod passing transversly though the servo compartment toward the aileron control rod exit ports on either side of the wing.

Looks like you picked door # 1 --Congratulations ! A little word of caution--check the bell cranks for slop. I think that is why Midwest went to the "New & Improved " version.Funny thing is --Great Planes still uses same construction method on the Piper Cub 40 size...Not sure,but it can't be that big a deal to mount two aileron servos out-boad as in most newer construction. All that linkage , recipe for a hang up ,or stall a servo,and lose a plane.Just my $.02 worth..Good luck.. Oh--If you ever need,or want a copy of the plans--let me know--Good Luck----

When my stick was born additional servos and/or channels were much dearer than they are now. In addition, the weight penalty was a pretty high price to pay, as well. Sorta of like software, we used to bleed for every drop of memory a program used (memory expensive, labor cheap) but now memory cheap, labor high.

Don't get to crazy witht the alearon throws or it'll roll like crazy

clocked my sweet stick with a webra speed 40 and 10-6 prop at 89 mph in a slight headwind and 99 mph downwind so average was 94 mph.used a surplus radar gun this was more than 20 years ago but that plane flew great,easy to maintain.the improved version had slight dihedral to eliminate airleron yaw of the flat wing that some experienced causing the plane to turn left when banked right.

10-4 on roll at a rapid rate. I was a relative newbie when I built the stick so I had the best pilot in our club check it out. That was a very wise decision! When that plane left the ground it rolled like a hot 3D A/C of today. I would have never saved it and the controls were set per the plans. Wow!

Hi All,

It's been pretty close to 20 years for me since I last flew RC planes. In my days Sweet Sticks were everything you all have described, we loved them! Now I wnat to get back into the hobby and decided I would just go buy a Sweet Stick kit, build it over the winter and re-learn how to fly in the spring. What a huge surprise I was in for, the whole world has changed. I would be lucky to find any kits at all.

My next step was to do an internet search for Sweet Stick and that's how I found this site. I wouldn't mind scratch building one if I could find some plans. Or maybe someone could suggest a more available kit that is somewhat comparable to a Stick.

I think I'm going to like this site.

there is an arf stick around for under $100,if you want a copy of the plans pm me i have a set of sweet stick plans i can get copied at kinkos for around $8.

Jim, The new thing which is a blast and there are a zillion reasons to like them: foamies. Easy and cheap to build and a blast to fly. Check out foamyfactory.com to start and down load a plan or two and get after it.

I knew I wouldn't ask the right question when I got the CG from Amelia-air. Can you also tell me the control throws from the plans and I know they are too much but it would give me a starting place in getting the old stick back in the air.

Sure makes me feel good--Pout-- Just kidding--There is nothing on the plans about control throws--Probably in the instruction book--which I don't have
Took this from a Great Planes ARF stick Instruction book.hope it helps

Not being a very artistic dude, I painted my stick like the upper pic, red fuse, yellow stripes/rudder and Navy Iron crosses using K & B two part paint. Is that your tabby lieing in your printer?

My burmese like to get in boxes of styro popcorn. Then I have popcorn all over the place.

digging through all my stuff looking for info I found a 1976 Kraft radio flyer. These newbies don't know how cheap all these radios and servos are.
Can you paste scan in this text square?

FCC changed all the radio freq many yeears ago,and your Kraft is probably illegal Most aircraft fly on 72 Mhz now--some park flyers use 25 Mhz
Should be a gold sticker on the back if its legal.--Good Luck----

I want to build one of these by spring. All balsa and lose the dihedral though. It looks like its just the size of the super stik 40 Hangar 9 used to make, that you can't get anymore, which was a great size for a 46.
