RE: Balsa USA Der Jager
I built a BSA "Der Jager" about 17 years ago. It was built from the kit and powered with a Quadra 35 in it. I was surprised that it was rather sluggish to control as set up on the plans. It became a decent flying bird when I finally used four Aileron servos and pull-pull controls on the empennage. I did it all white somewhat like Hermann Gorings D-7. I had large scale servos on all surfaces except motor and an extra servo for the kill switch. I took it to several Giant Scale meets and after the third season I sold it to an othe modeler in the club. I don't know if he ever tried to fly it.

RE: Balsa USA Der Jager
John,
It's a scale model of a homebuilt biplane from the 60's. I have seen exactly one in many, many years of going to the EAA convention at Oshkosh.
The prototype was all yellow with quasi German WW1 markings.

Yes, it's a model of a homebuilt.
have copies of plans and instructions (may still be availible from BUSA)
Kit is out of stock.
In process of selling my copy of kit. can copy parts, if u speak up fast.

RE: Balsa USA Der Jager
Thanks Ray & Lotus72,
When I corrected the spelling I got some info' about models & full size rather than OPERA.
I realised afterwards that ADVERTISEMENTS have had an effect on me despite claiming that I never looked at them, Jaeger is a garment manufacturer from the 50s when I travelled on the underground (subway) to work.I also looked up RC Modeler to see if it still existed. No luck at all until I removed the double L that we use in Britain when spelling Modeller. I found references up to 2005 but nothing later.
I found it facinating to read of Kermit Weeks and his collection of over 140 aircraft, hangared I believe in Florida. He built a full sized Der Jager at 16yrs of age.
Yes I wish I could get to Oskosh, now I can afford it my health isn't good enough to survive the trip.
Does anyone recognise "Lots Of Trouble Usually Serious!" LOL.

RE: Balsa USA Der Jager
You can still buy the plans with instruction sheet from Balsa USA but the kit is
no longer availalble, so sort of problem with the model designer from what I
have heard. Lazer-Works out of Whicta Fall, Texas has a short kit they can cut
for those interested, http://lazer-works.com/misc.html, scroll down the page to find it.
Eddie does first class work, highly recommended.
Cowl and wheel pants, available from one of the glss cowl suppliers.
Turtle desck will have to be formed own you own though.

RE: Balsa USA Der Jager
BTW FokkerAce already sold the kit some time ago I already checked on that one.
The cowl is available here: http://www.precision-fiberglass-prod.com/?cat=8
I beleive they also have the wheel pants, just don't show them in their online catalog.

RE: Balsa USA Der Jager
I grew up in SoCal and remember the original build Der Jager. It was painted that butterscotch yellow that is very similar to the color of a late sixties MGB. Harvest Gold?

RE: Balsa USA Der Jager
I have a BUSA Der Jager from a good friend. He built it many moons ago, but it is still in nice condition. It is equipped with a Supertigre 3000, onboard glow and all Airtronics radio gear to include receiver. His building techniques are excellent and this plane is rock solid. It is painted as the normal scheme in RED. If you know of anyone interested, I am willing to part with it as I will probably never fly it. I have way too many planes and need to thin my herd. I can take some photos for anyone that is interested.

RE: Balsa USA Der Jager
An old spanish RC model company called Modelhob, now disappeared, made in the 80's a nice kit of the der jager. It was 1300mm wing span, and used a .40 2T engine or .60 4T.
I have the plans if anyone is interested.
I was lucky and last year found on ebay France a complete unbuilt kit for this model. Will be starting it shortly.
